I’ve been to Disney World four times but not in the recent past. I’m taking my girlfriend for a week and was wondering if anyone has been there recently.

What did you enjoy the most?

My fiancée is a Disney nut, to the point that I actually took her to WDW to propose to her in front of the castle. Last year she made 4 trips, and had been at least once nearly every year since she could walk (so that's a whole lot of trips). She's on her second year of an annual pass, and we had originally planned to honeymoon there.

In fact, she had a trip scheduled for last week, which of course didn't happen.

Her general take now is that she's not really in a hurry to go back. She follows this stuff very, very closely and says that between Fastpasses being gone and transportation working at reduced capacity (plus wearing a mask all day in the Florida heat) she's not anxious to return anytime soon. A lot of her "tricks" that she knows to make a trip run like clockwork just aren't available right now. We're still up in the air as to whether or not to go in December/early January as we'd originally planned...

On the plus side, from what she's telling me, lines are short and resorts are cheap now, but quite a few of the resorts and other attractions are not open.

There's also no "park hopping" right now. You have to sign up for a specific park for one specific day (and obv. have a pass that allows access to the same).

One of these new policies includes a theme park reservation system, where Guests will need a park ticket as well as a theme park reservation each day in order to visit. Also, it’s important to note that just because you are staying at a hotel on property, does not mean that you will have guaranteed themed park access.

Oh yeah, that was another big one that's missing now.

Park Hopping plays a very big part in planning trips for us. As an example, dinner in the World Showcase followed by fireworks at Epcot can be a pleasant experience, but it's great to be able to not be locked into an entire day there. My fiancée is not wild about Hollywood Studios especially as she doesn't like the more extreme thrill rides, and often only wants a half day there.

First of all, congratulations of finding someone who is so passionate about Disney World. I‘m sure that passion of hers for such an AMAZING place has enriched your life as well.

Second, congratulations on proposing in front of the castle. That is wonderful and a definite goal of mine one day. Truly a magical memory that will last a lifetime.

Third, we’re just going for fun. It seems like a good time to go because the crowd should be less but I’ve been reading many people are probably thinking EXACTLY like us, and so there’s actually quite a few people there. The mask requirement was a bit annoying but they do have mask free zones where you can take a break from what I’ve been reading so that’s definitely nice.

I don’t have any passes or anything but who knows, we might leave with buying some haha :)

That's funny, that was probably our favorite park, but we prefer thrill rides.

We went with friends a few years ago, I hadn't been in decades, it was fine, my whole family isn't really a fan, including the 12 year old. Having to ride a bus, leaving the hotel without convenient access (they go all day and take massive backpacks), the "non-resort" experience (when we went with friends, they had reserved lunch at be our guest, yikes ...), parks not being linked via a quick walk or boat ride is just a deal killer for us.

We by orders-of-magnitude prefer Universal Studios, outside of the rides (Velocicoaster 2021 baby!) and restaurants, we love staying at a big beautiful resort, with exceptional dining, that we can walk to the park from, in like 10 minutes, and that's both parks and tons of excellent restaurants - plenty of adult consumption available as well :D

I also get some people don't drink, don't like coasters, don't want to spend $300/night at a resort, etc., didn't want this to break down into a vs. thing, just tossing in my $0.02, I totally get that some people have a massive [emotional] investment in all things Disney :)

I'm surprised that Disney doesn't have a virtual park ticket where you can pay to watch people go around the park.

I'm sure that there are people who would pay for that.

FWIW, since it's Disney related, Hong Kong Disney park that opened in June (I think they were their first property to open), is closing back down:

When she and I went, I ended up riding the Rockin' Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror without her, which was fine.

I'm actually looking forward to going with her family-maybe next year sometime if things are back to some semblance of normal-as normally her sister is the one riding those type of rides alone. At least then I can have a ride buddy on the stuff my fiancé won't ride.

At the same time, if you are the only one in a group who wants to ride a particular ride, the single rider line is a really nice touch. It doesn't exist now, though, for obvious reasons.

You're bringing back so many memories. Super excited right now. On social media I'm seeing people post videos from there, the hype is real

Just remember that, irrespective of the heat, mask wearing at DisneyWorld is Mandatory unless you’re eating.

This is incorrect. I'm guessing you're not aware of the relaxation zones...

It’s not incorrect, I just didn’t know about those awful “relaxation “ zones. That aside, it’s mask required.

You do like missing the point, don’t you?

Remember COVID-19 is real also.

Bet Covid is going to have a real fun time at DisneyWorld. All those strangers...

Just so others aren't misled by your post, masks are NOT required in the relaxation zones

My girlfriend and I have never been more excited. I made sure there'll be roses and all that. It's going to be very romantic hehe. We aren’t worried about corona and honestly haven’t been for awhile. Much needed vacation for both of us :)

Goid grief. You real like to focus on the small stuff, don’t you?

Meanwhile Florida is having a totally awful time with Covid.

These are not Cumulative, these are DAILY figures. Compare current figures with those at the height of the lockdown.

If non of this concerns you then that’s a serious problem.

Go, have your “fun”, wear your mask everywhere (except eating and in one of those dumb, stupid and dangerous “relaxation zones”), just know that the wise money is betting on DisneyWorld being a major superspreader zone.

I expect Disney to close sooner than later

Yeah I think Disney World could close which is why we are going soon. Right now cases are SURGING in Florida, so I'm thinking that's why a lot of people are going because they want to go incase it shuts down again

Given the stratospheric - and rising - rate of both infection and mortality (due to Covid-19) in Florida, I'm surprised that it hasn't closed already.

In fact, not to close Disneyland, strikes me as extraordinarily irresponsible.

Might it not be more prudent not to travel there at all?

So to be clear, you wrote (slightly re-authored):

Florida is having record cases of Covid-19, and Disney World is experiencing a massive uptick in visitors ... so I determined this is the best time to travel to Florida and go to Disney.

Outstanding.

Maybe I'll use some of the same logic, let's see, sharks feed at dusk, so I think I'll go swimming about 50 yards offshore tonight, around 8p, and before I go, I'll fill my pockets with bloody raw steak ...

Don't give the OP suggestions.
