    Hey all,

I am heading to Brazil this year and will stay there for at least 6 months. :D

I have an unlocked/jailbreaked pwned iPhone 8Gb (non 3G). Since I have not traveled overseas for quite a while what should I do to use my phone down there (other than replacing the SIM card) ?

I read somewhere about "Localization" but have no clue if that information still holds.

    Thanks,

    J.

Do you want/need your phone to be in Portugese or another locally spoken language?

If your phone is unlocked and jailbreaked, you shouldn't really need to do anything, besides getting a new SIM when you get there.

You probably may want to consider making sure you have a plan to be able to backup / sync / update it... are you taking the computer with which it syncs with you also?

Or is your concern about accessing the App Store?

You will need to get a local SIM card, that's what the unlocking allows you to do

    Hi Mkrishnan,

Well, yes, I would like to have Portuguese (if the process is reversible).
Yes again, it is fully pwned :)

I am taking my laptop with me but here are the two questions I do not know the answers :

    a. yes, using US iTunes during this time would be convenient (I heard Brazilian version still does not offer much stuff). Should I use a proxy or something ?

    b. I have some phone numbers from Brazil (like +55 11 1234 5678). Should I change them (hence converting my US numbers to +1 xxx xxx xxxx) ?

    Thanks again !

    J.

    Hi again,

    - iPhone in Portugese -- no problem. At least in 2.1, there are two Portugese localizations available in Settings -> General -> International -> Language. There's one that's just called Portugues and one that's Portugues (Portugal), so I'm assuming you want the first one as "International" Portugese. You can go back to the same menu item and change back to any other language, including English, anytime you like.

    - I'm not that sure about the Proxy thing... that's a really good question.

    - You probably want to get confirmation from someone in Brazil, but I believe that you should add / make sure you have +1 on all of your US / CAN numbers, but leave the Brazilian numbers alone. Typically you do not get charged on cellular networks in any special way for having country codes in place but dialing within your country (just like you don't get charged in the US for having the +1 country code in place). So I think that if you add the +1's for the US #'s and leave the other numbers alone, all the numbers will work both in the US/CAN and in Brazil.

I'm not sure what you mean about using a proxy. I use my US iTunes account here in the UK and it works just fine.
