So I will be going to Israel in November. I am 99.9% sure that my airplane seat won't have a power plug to charge my 3G ipod touch. I am worried about being able to keep the device charged for the duration of the flight(at least 12 hrs) so I am considering getting an external battery pack. My question is this-
presuming I turn on airplane mode and lower brightness settings, could my ipod last if I just play music and MAYBE a movie(I am willing to remove video from the device if it means keeping it alive).

If not, what would be a good bet? I have seen the Gum Pro/Plus and the Mophie Juice Pack, but are there other quality solutions? I want to be able to use it while charging.

If you just play music, it will definitely make it the whole flight. Video it will probably die a few hours into the flight.

You could get a Macbook or Macbook Pro and charge with that in-flight ;-).

already got one-I may or may not bring it so that I can read some of my digital magazines-though I may just transfer it to my moms netbook, as taking my laptop will just add weight-not to mention the fact that the laptop won't even make it across the country on a single charge. Then there's airport security-don't need to spend another 30 minutes showing TSA that my Mac is not a bomb....

International flights now-a-days have movie on demand, so I wouldn't be too bored while on board. However, depending on which airline and aircraft you'll be flying in, some may have power plugs (USB adaptor required). The iPod should last the whole duration of the flight assuming your iPod's battery is in good health and you're only listening to music-- the movie may drain the device faster, though. Which airline will you be flying with, anyway?

I'm not totally sure(my parents bought the tickets, so I am not positive). If I had to guess, I would say maybe Contential?

And yes I would hope that my battery is in good health Any good way of testing it?

If its just music it should last the whole flight, not sure about video though.

I think as long as it lasts the time it should last it's in good shape.

Thanks everyone-I think I may just get the Juice Pack or the Gum Pro/Plus-just to be safe.

    Better be safe then sorry

If it's Continental then indeed it has power-ports on its international flights. I'm a frequent Continental flyer, and it has two power-ports for every three seats in economy class.

I would definately recommend the Gum Pro, have been using it for 6 months now and it's fantastic. The battery is HUGE, and it's really simple to use :)
