No they're not. It's your country's laws, and it's their job.

Then clearly you haven't been stopped by the customs on your way out then? Sure it's their job, but the customs I had to negotiate with were difficult, almost on the verge of being nasty, utterly rude, aggressive and just splitting hairs when the fact that i was innocent - none of these characteristics has anything to do with their job, but because of who they are. It's unnecessary and they could have tackled my suspicion with much better behaviour. I stand by it, they're a bunch of right b'tards.

Must be UK customs then. I'm always treated with the utmost respect with the American officals, and they are always quite understanding.

LOL.......just be sure to practice being calm, cool and collected because these days the customs officials have been trained to look for body language that indicates you're being shady

Don't forget that before you enter the states, they are going to fingerprint you like a criminal when you get off the plane.

I know. It doesn't cease to amaze me anymore. There will come a point where, we'll have to board a plane in our birthday suits. It's about security, right?

Just thought i would give an update as am now back from america.

I went with the intention of getting a black macbook and 80gb ipod. One of the first places in went in new york was to the apple store, and it was very close to my hotel, like a 5 minute walk.

Once i got there i went first to look at the black macbooks, can't say i was that impressed with them. The black looks cool, but the discolouration of mouse pad was a real let down, its like they were starting to turn white. I know they were display models and everyone would be putting their grubby fingures all over it but it was a slight bit of dissapointment. Also connected to the laptops were ipods, and they all seemed to be 30gb ones, which looked so nice and thin, about twice the thickness of my nano. I then found an 80gb and thought the bigger size was too big, and wasn't that impressed.

I decided to buy my 30gb ipod on the spot there and walked out of the apple store with a black one. With the money i saved i brought a docking station and those tv leads. I had planned on returning the next day anyway as was going to tiffanys so was right by it. I was unsure about the laptop as had planned on getting a black macbook and was very dissapointed in how they had weathered.

Went on a tour of new york the next day and then returned to the apple store, and actually had started warming up to the white macbook. Went in the apple store and looked how well the white books had kept to the black book. I spoke to some guy wearing who worked there, i said "do you know much about these macbooks" and he replied "no, what do you think? of course i am", the thought of "you would probably look a bit better if i hit you in the face a few times" did come to mind, but thought it was best to smile and just cough some bad words.

I ended up buying a 1gb of ram and 80gb white macbook, and honestly i love it. It looks so great on my side next to my pc and wide screen TV. I am in the process of reinstalling and putting boot camp on to it.

And i'm sure to zRedbullz's much happyness i wasn't stopped by customs, they didn't give me the glove treatment and ask me to bend over. Everything was great and the apple store was so full of geeks it was incredable.

Now i want to get a 160gb hard drive for my macbook...

I was traveling last year, and while I was in the states I bought a ibook 12 inch ($999) Canon Digital Rebel XT ($1099 with all accesarys and lenses) a ipod ($299) also thousands of dollars worth of snowboarding equipment.

Customs officials didnt say a thing to me when I arrived back in heathrow. Maybe I was lucky!
