There is always a perpetual argument of wanting to upgrade, or waiting for the newest and best tech to come out. However, once in a while there is a significant upgrade, case-in-point retina iphones, mac-mini etc. However, many may argue the sense in waiting for gen 2, and thus the perpetual argument: to wait, or upgrade.

I think there are a number of objective variables, and after a balanced decision, one can decide if their needs are currently met by their current set-ups, or warrant an upgrade.

Despite being an early apple adopter for a number of macs. I decided to delay getting the current gen RiMac. Although skylake, DDR4 RAM, Thunderbolt 3 or probably USB 3.1 would be all very nice, my current set-up is (just about) ok for my needs (rMBP 13" '14) one feature i would seriously like to see in the next gen rImacs is target display mode - i understand current limitations precludes this, however, with TB3, and skylake this may be feasible, unless apple decides to disable the feature.

Integrated graphics improvements won't have an effect with iMac 5Ks as they all have dedicated GPUs. Unless Apple decided NOT to include dGPU in the next entry-level iMac 5K. :(

Ssshhh, you might be giving some apple-employed lurkers some ideas :p
Shudder to think if iGPU on an imac driving a 5K screen.

I need to replace a desktop and would love to do it with a 27 RiMac. I'm also holding off for the Target Display Mode. That would give additional utility to our setup and allow me to switch to a 13" from 15" RMBP.

Yep, 21.5" with Broadwell, 27" with Skylake in (most probably) October.

At WWDC maybe the 4k 21.5" iMac will be announce. But the 27" will be in October so 5 more months
So if you can wait or borrow a mac until then if you really need..
