I just got my shiny gold 5S tonight after waiting for almost two months to find one in stock. And something is wrong with it. When I use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone these two white lights pop up on the top right corners of the screen as the icons fly into view. However this doesn't happen if I use the pin code to unlock the phone. And if I turn the parallax affect off there are no lights. But I like the parallax affect and the fingerprint scanner. Otherwise I would have just a 5C. This only happens on the home screen. If I unlock into a second or third screen everything works normally. Also if I move icons around on the home screen it seems to affect the intensity of the white lights. I found a YouTube video showing my exact problem on another gold iphone but there were no solutions posted. If I return the phone I won't see another gold one in my small town for who knows how long. Any ideas? Btw I'm on AT&T, 16 g.

Are you serious? You consider this a defect, and actually want to return it? Lol!!

This seems more like a feature to me. I have a gold iPhone 5s and there is a little light on the top right. It's not nearly as noticeable as the video. It's probably designed to do this, maybe to indicate you did in fact use the fingerprint sensor. But Jesus man how does something so minor ruin an awesome phone like this? It doesn't, its a tiny flash for a split second...wow

When I got my iphone 5 last year, I had a slight flicker on the screen occasionally. I just ignored it. Until about three months later when the whole thing just went black. So I am a little cautious. And if you think Apple designed a few phones out of millions to do this on purpose, your crazy. My son's space gray 5s doesn't do it. Neither does my brother's. Maybe theirs are defective.

Um from that video it appears the white light is caused from the 's' in google maps zooming in to place.

It's a software bug, if it's even a bug at all.

Also he was capturing the actual video output of the OS, not taping the actual iphone, so it has to be software.

I am 100% certain there is nothing wrong hardware wise.

That's exactly what the guy at the help desk said. I moved some icons and folders around and all is well. I even moved everything back like it was originally and the lights haven't returned. Weird. I can say that the fingerprint reader on this phone works amazingly well. It reads my print almost as soon as I push the he button to unlock the phone. I initially didn't think much of the Touch ID but now that I have used it a while, it is definitely one of those things that I would miss if I didn't have it.

Just a quick FYI, AT&T is now selling the 16 gig iPhone 5S in any color for $99.99 with a two year contract.

This.. if anything it is a software issue. Nothing to worry about on your end :)
