Watch collectors have several types of watches and they could purchase this for the history of the product and what it represents i.e. the crowing of the smart watch (albeit not a great one IMO).

There is also another type of wealthy collector we seen recently the Apple tech collector; to me atleast they are a newish breed of collector but I could imagine in many years to come a gen 1 gold Apple watch in mint condition could go for a significant value.
 
The Apple Watch Edition is one of those things: if you need to ask yourself whether it's a wise purchase, then you are not the intended market.

As I mention before, it is for someone with enough toy pocket change and looking for what other toy to buy, not is it worth to buy.

Stay with SS or sports, if you are not in above category to avoid buyer's remorse.
