was in my local ATT store today, the guy said word from on high was they would not get anything but space gray in for tomorrow. Also noted, however, that last year they were told the same thing about 32gb 5's, and a truckload of them rolled in around noon on launch day. But it really sounds like the gold ones are going to be backlogged awhile...

So even though I want gold, probably gonna get what I can tomorrow morning. If I have to order, I'll go gold... and shoot, they all look the same in a case, right? and yea yea, i know, cases suck. Cracking your screen* sucks more, though.

*i have done this no less than 3 times. D'oh!

I would have liked that they not ship to as many countries if they did not have the stock to fulfill.

I see. So, which country do you live in and would you have been willing to have your country be in the 2nd or 3rd tier of countries in terms of release dates?

Of COURSE! And Apple would be smart to do that to keep people happy and not disappointed. Just good marketing. Happy customers are loyal customers.

I see. So your issue is that you are now in a global queue and have to wait just as long as the rest of the world. Your preference is that every one else have to wait longer so that people in your country don't have to wait as long.

Personally, I think you are setting the bar too low. Instead of having the initial release be to tier 1 countries, they should have tier 1 states/provinces. You know, so your state/province gets all of the available stock first and everyone else, even in your country, has to wait. Or better yet, how about tier 1 cities where your city gets all of the available stock first.

Or maybe, just to be sure, they can have tier 1 locations where your local cell phone dealer gets all the stock. You'll have to tell them which of your local cell phone stores you want all that stock sent to though.

Apple wouldn't want to inconvenience you too much by making you wait some amount of time for a product that is in unbelievably high demand.

Not worthy of a response.
HAVE A NICE DAY!

Perhaps Aussies have a more practical sense of taste than the nouveau riche culture the gold phones were designed to pander to...

Australia has quite a large Asian market but my suspicion has always been the first gold went to China.

Seriously. If you're going to skip an iPhone generation, this one is shaping up to be the perfect one. It just seems like its going to be an inordinate hassle to get one. The "supply chain guru" should have saw this coming and made more 5Ss than 5Cs. So far, the 5c's been a flop.

Flop really? How so? Genuinely curious if you've seen sales numbers or other indicators?

iPhones sell out within the span of hours. This was still hasn't sold out and we are nearly a week on sale. And don't say its because of larger supplies because a larger supply simply cannot explain the absolute tepid launch we've seen . If you still believe this, I'm curious if you've seen production numbers or other indicators.

I will get one, gold 64GB, to match my gold/champagne car. :)

Just please, don't use your Iphone while driving.

I got to the Canberra store at 6.45AM for an 8AM open and there was probably about 30 to 40 people in the line. An Apple staff member came up as soon as I got in the line and asked if I was after a gold 5s to which I responded yes and I was told their stock was all accounted for.

So yeah, certainly in Canberra there must have been close to no stock for golds, although they did suggest I could have got the other colours if I wanted (I wasn't keen so I've ordered online). Given there was about 30 or 40 people ahead of me and presumably not all of them are after a gold model or even a 5s, I can only imagine the store had had less than 20 or 30 units across all the size variations, if that. They didn't even ask what capacity I wanted which was telling and significant too.

Anyway no drama, placed an online order 2 minutes later so I'll get one when they are in. I'd have preferred if they'd just released the gold on the 27th or something to allow them to build up some inventory, but life goes on.

Ya,, we're back in business :)

5-7 is pretty dam good, considering its usually 3 weeks after launch.

(Edit. That's seriously one messed up car)

A couples of weeks back nobody wanted a gold iphone , now everybody wants one

Is like reading that first iphone thread from years back

Now you know when this forum hates a new apple product it's gonna be a big seller

That seems to be true more often than not...
