So, I got the latest version (first time Mac buyer) and got a lovely case for keeping it safe as well as very nice purpose made cloths for cleaning it. Had it two weeks. And inexplicably and without any incident whatsoever, the Apple side shell has two faint little scratches as well as one or two little pockmarks. I am as gentle as possible with the device as it's literally the most expensive thing I've ever bought. It feels like every time I open it and use it there's a new little mark. It doesn't add up.

Now, I checked the case it's in and it's purpose made for keeping it safe, and I gently remove it past the zips when I'm taking it out. But i guess it could be those. Lamentably.

At any rate, they don't seem to buff out with the aforementioned cloths, is there anything else that can be done?

I am shocked at how sensitive the metal (gold version btw) is. Is this normal? I wipe it down gently frequently with the cloths and it has left the house twice.

Any advice on how to remove the scratches?

Probably micro abrasion marks from the carry case to MacBook. Have you tried some alcohol wet wipes, similar to what folks with glasses use? I understand your frustration, especially when its the actual product that one bought to protect being the probable offender. Been there done that.

Firstly, good name haha.

Secondly, no. Just the microfibre cloths. I have one spectacle wet wipe somewhere.

Frequently wiping it with cloths won't be helping - that right there will cause micro-abrasions as the cloths will hold dirt and dust particles that you are then smearing, potentially aggressively onto its surface.

Personally though, its a device designed to be used and abused - its not a showpiece, same as EVERYTHING else apple makes - just get on with life and use it, those marks are just characterful of YOUR device.

Thanks for the reply.

It's literally 2 weeks old and has had medium use; I still use my older laptop as it's just easier for the moment. I doubt the cloth is causing abrasions. It's life so far has seen it leave my house twice and the rest on my desk: unused mostly.

Advice noted. Cheers.
