Stick with your stainless steel as it is the only surface that when scratched can be polished out by the user. Not willing to sacrifice that for a gold color on my AW.
You would have to decide if the scratches on your ⌚️ would bother you very much. Both SS & gold plated accumulate scratches over time. With SS, some have posted easy, quick fixes. With a gold plated ⌚️ - not so easy to fix yourself. (With Time Preserve, their warranty does not cover scratches, but they will refinish at a greatly reduced cost.) I'm not certain whether the aluminum ⌚️ shows scratches. Before you try a service, look at their history in business. A history of "20 years of services for in restoring fine watches" got my attention over a startup service within the last year. That said, I just learned the hard way that "you get what you pay for". Below are images of 2 modern buckles that have been gold plated - the black one by thetimepreserve.com in July when I had my ⌚️ gold plated & the brown one gold plated this past week by a different company (not Watchplate, I knew not to use this service from other posts). I just received the brown one back yesterday. I used a different service to save a few $$ & to see what their quality was. Needless to say, I'm disappointed. As you can see, the brown MB is deeper gold and very splotchy. The black MB is the same color gold as the ⌚️ Edition (Cuppertino gold, I believe). Both services claim that the gold plating is 18K. The final decision about whether to purchase the gold Sport model or to purchase the SS & have it gold plated is entirely up to you, just be certain to weigh your options & decide what works for you.

Can we see your apple watch face plated by thetimepreserve?
I used thetimepreserve.com on 7/6/15. My watch still looks just like the
⌚️ Edition (I never claim it is one tho). They are very professional & communication w/them is terrific. I had ⌚️ and 2 bands gold plated. They have a two year warranty.

I sent them (The Time Preserve) my watch about a week ago and haven't really heard anything back from them since their initial "processing" email. How long was your wait? What was your experience with them? Thank you so much for any and all input!!!
Edit: Should have just called instead of emailed. They said it should ship tomorrow or the day after. Fingers crossed!!!
Get the gold Sport model. Don't wreck your SS watch.hello all,
I am in a bit of a dilemma here, I bought the SS Apple watch back when it came out but since then they have released the gold aluminum watch. My question is should I spend the $399 to get my SS plated in shiny gold or should I just get the gold aluminum and not have to worry about peeling? Thanks in advance!
It all comes down to preference. If you want your watch to look 99.9% identical to the watch edition with typing. Exception of the 18K engraving on the back then gold plate it. If you want it look gold with the exclusive gold watch face hands, then go with the gold aluminum
99.9% identical only applies to the black sport and black classic buckle models, as the lack of color-capped crown is a dead giveaway that it's not an Edition. But, yes, I agree with you that the gold Sport is a poor substitute for those who desire the Edition look. The only thing you'll wreck is the warranty, assuming you actually go with a reputable plating company (not WatchPlate!).
The OP will have to baby his watch with his life for no damage physical or hardware. Lol. Granted since WatchOS 2.2 allows multiples watches I do own both stainless steel and edition with classic buckle with Apple Care + on both. I do rarely ever wear my edition unless it's a high end restaurant, weeding...etc. 99% of the time when I go to work, mall shopping, relaxing its always the stainless.
No. I have a 42mm Apple Watch stainless steel milinese (among 7 other bands) and a 42 mm Apple Watch Edition Black classic buckle.
I actually did get my watch gold plated from the Time Preserve. However I wasn't aware of their existence until after I had my watch plated by WatchPlate. Sent it in, Looks amazing again.

I posted "Edition look" - didn't claim it to be anything else.Fake colored crown covered with watchdot or something like that. It can't fool me or anyone else who knows what to look for.

How? My (TimePreserve) gold plated AW has a black classic loop plated, as well as the crown being gold with a black dot.Understood that perfectly. All I was saying is, while some people may get fooled, the experts among us can easily pick it out as a clone.
Not really. It looks pretty damn identical. You're being harsh.Understood that perfectly. All I was saying is, while some people may get fooled, the experts among us can easily pick it out as a clone.

Just by looks alone, it looks identical to an apple watch edition. Weight on the other hand is noticeable, and the engraving on the back. But.. just by looking you can't discern the two.
