Golden Gate beta 3 -- drive icons increase in size when clicked+dragged

Just installed the Golden Gate developer beta 3 on my experimental external drive (SSD).

Immediately noticed something when I tried to drag a drive volume icon to relocate it on the desktop:
When you click on the item and begin the drag it, the icon INCREASES in size. It "swells up".
"Let go" of it, and it shrinks back down to normal size.

I don't recall ever seeing this behavior of volume icons in the finder before.

Has anyone else noticed this?
Is there a way to turn this 'feature' off ??

I can’t replicate this by dragging my internal drive or external SSD on my desktop.

Here's a small, short screen recording I made using Quicktime to show what's happening.
I've attached it to this reply in zip format. It's only about 12mb in size, uncompressed.

Take note as it plays:
- when the pointer goes "mouse down" on the drive/volume icon, watch it increase in size
- it stays large being moved
- when "dropped" (mouse up), it shrinks down to original size.

This DOES NOT happen with folder icons or file icons.
ONLY with icons representing drives or partitions on drives.
Also, it does not happen with the Golden Gate BOOT volume.
Only -other- mounted drives/volumes.

2024 m4 Mini, Golden Gate developer beta 3.
It DID NOT do this in betas 1 or 2.

I haven't changed the size of the icons, and it NEVER did that before.
Not ever.

Can this be changed by using the terminal?

Sorry, I don’t know if there is a Terminal command that can control it.

I had my icons set to 64x64 and then decreased the size until I could reproduce the issue. On my MBP, setting the icon size to anything above 44x44 stopped the icon from increasing in size.

Edit: Running Sequoia 15.7.8 24G814 and I can no longer verify that the same thing happens, desktop icons did swell if the size was set to 44 x 44 or smaller, but after a reboot, it doesn't happen. I have it set to 36 x 36, and the HD icons did swell up once. But not now, anyway, still not a big deal, I think.

Not really a beta 3 regression — LeVan already showed it happening on Sequoia 15.7.8 at 36×36. It kicks in on any macOS build once desktop icons drop below the ~44pt threshold, and it only affects volume icons because Finder falls back to the system volume asset for the drag ghost, while file and folder icons pull from the item's Quick Look preview and scale down properly with the display size.

Practical workaround: Cmd-J on the desktop and bump the icon size to 48 or above. It sticks per view and gets rid of the swell. I haven't found a defaults write that gets under the minimum drag-image size itself, and I doubt one exists — feels like an AppKit floor rather than a Finder pref.

Again, this has never happened (to me) before in any version of the OS.

The "system volume asset" of which you speak...
... is it stored in any particular file?
Wondering if it could be "edited" without using the terminal...

I’ve tried all the desktop icon sizes from 16px on up. Icon doesn’t magnify/swell up for me. Might be cool to be able to toggle similar to Dock magnification.
