Recently cancelled my Apple Card account after three years. Long story short, for security reasons, I needed to delete my current Apple ID account entirely and create a new Apple ID. Apple Card is tied to one Apple ID and that cannot be changed. So, Apple Card account had to be closed. Isn’t it nuts that Apple/GS don’t have a solution to this? I find it laughable that they weren’t able to just implement some system that allows for a new Apple ID to replace the old.

Ultimately, I wasn’t happy with the card anyways. When you really think about it, the only thing Apple Card is good for is paying off a limited selection of Apple Products over a fixed time for free. Thats it. But I didn’t get it for that. I was expecting so much more from the card in terms of deals, discounts, and partnerships. None of that materialized. There were some great promos in the beginning, like the 6% cash back, but it all faded away. Got to the point to where I wasn’t really using the card anymore. I earn great cash-back and better rates from my other regular credit cards and banks.

I have had an Amex card for over 25 years. Excellent customer support. Amex has been good to me over the years. Its my fav card actually.
I wouldn’t say the only thing it’s good for is Apple products. I live in a big metro area and everywhere I go be it food, public transport, etc takes Apple Pay and since I use a credit card for ALL my purchases it’s 2% for everything not just restaurants or gas. That’s pretty competitive and since I use my phone the only physical card I carry is a debit one. Really about convenience/ease of use at this point.

Had AmExp top cards since 1968. Platinum membership costs $650 per year. My wife also has a fee. No real spending limit.

No business would take the AmExp card in Ireland in May 2023 while we were there. Many stores here in the USA won’t take it either.

We keep AmExp as an emergency travel card as most airlines accept it.

My Apple Card credit limit went from under $10K to over $32K. Have had good results when issues cropped up. I pay the balance in full on the first business day of the next month.

Note that banks dislike customers that pay promptly as they do not get the over 28% interest that starts ASAP if one makes a late payment.

I use the Citi CostCo card as well. No issues anywhere in the world with this card.

If they transfer it to American Express, I really hope Apple lets Amex handle all support. The Apple approach of “secrecy above all else,” that has the first two tiers reading pre-written scripts just isn’t acceptable in banking.
I'm not under the impression that Apple Card specialists are Apple employees. Are they? I've talked to them before and it seems like they are Goldman Sach's? Don't know for sure. Would be curious to know.

Who employs them is not clear, but Apple has dictated terms of customer service. If you call, notice the voice recording is the same voice as Apple Support and the hold music is the same. If you have a non-technical issue, they will also quickly tell you that they can only see what customers see. They will ask for screenshots and “escalate,” just like Apple Support does with their RTA.

Glad I kept my Chase Amazon card.
Unless one has a bad spending habit, I don't typically encourage getting rid of credit cards that one doesn't use. Just lock them up, physically and electronically, and put them away. That's what I've done with my Chase Amazon. I locked it up and don't use it at all. If Apple Card does become an AMEX card, welp, back out comes that Chase Amazon card!

My husband got rid of his Visa card once he got another credit card (forgot which one). I kinda berated him for closing his Visa since he has the longest credit history there and because abroad, Visa is well accepted over the other ones he had. Well, he later regretted closing his Visa card.

They changed this in the last two months after warning consumers 6 months ago. Now t-mobile has done the same.
Huh - I've never been warned about it yet. I use cc for both Xfinity (Comcast) cable and mobile payt's. Eventually they'll send me a text or an email. They aren't the best or brightest.

Interesting story about the issue with the AppleID and Apple Card. I had no idea it would be fixed that way.

I've found the current Apple Card beneficial for my uses. I really don't pay attention much to their cashback program and other benefits EXCEPT that there is no foreign transaction fee when used abroad, and that it is widely accepted. That part is important to me because I do go outside of the US and unless needed, don't carry cash.

I pay my bills fully every month, so I also don't pay attention to things like their rates.

The part I bolded above is not true at all.

I have communicated with Apple Card specialists by iMessage and by phone several times and they can see more than what I can see.

Amex traditionally has far more stringent credit worthiness for acceptance, too. As was mentioned up-thread, part of the trouble GS got into was it took on a lot of customers for the Apple card that had no business being issued a credit card in the first place. That's one aspect Amex could and probably would clean up in a hurry. Apple needs to shed the persistent image that Apple Card has become a subprime business. Not really befitting their squeaky-clean premium brand pretense.

As a business-oriented card, Amex is second to none although it's been a while since I've been in a position to have a corporate issued card. I just remembered their CS was just miles above everyone else.
I don’t think there’s any evidence that the Apple Card is the one that’s responsible for losses.

they charge me $695 per year

is this the fabled "black card" that has no limit?
No Tier below but still gets you into airport lounge, Priority Pass and Centurion lounge access.
I visited a pizza restaurant in Manhattan last week and they had a sign telling customers that they will add an extra fee to the bill, if somebody pays with AMEX. That makes every pizza many cents more expensive.

That likely violates their merchant agreement.

Actually I've visited many USA businesses with similar signs back many years, so nothing new with some business saying use of an American Express card involves a small additional fee. If Visa and MC hikes their transaction rates you'll see the same occur. Gas stations can more easily work this by cash vs credit charges. You can't fault small businesses for trying to minimize the costs associated with credit cards if it starts to impact their profits.

We left AE recently! We used AE for business for over 30 years. We had business and I had personal Platinum cards from 1993 forward. I was even offered some crazy black card at one point like it was a status symbol or something. Why did we sever our business relationship with AE. From a business perspective they're unreliable. We had AE and two banks for all our business needs to include cash-flow management. Here's the deal. AE will drop a card or program with NO real prior notice. We got tired of them creating some product for cash-flow management and then several years later receiving a physical letter at the office on Monday that the program had been terminated the prior Friday. We never had even one issue on our end and kept all of our accounts current. I simply DO NOT TRUST American Express.
My mother has an Amex card with 0 balance declined and closed without notice while taking our family for dinner. When she called to find out why… she had balances on non Amex cards

The part you bolded is most certainly true. I’m not saying it is accurate but when tricky issues come-up, Apple has instructed them to say that and escalate to Tier 3, Apple Card Managers. It’s the exact same tactic Apple Support uses. Even when you talk to a Senior Advisor, once they encounter issues that are not covered in public Apple Support documents, they will do an RTA to Engineering.

This would be horrible for frequent international travelers. It’s difficult to find a use for AMEX in Europe. Asia is spotty at best. I’ve enjoyed the card thus far but if it’s Amex I’d have to get rid of it.

I would welcome this. GS has some of the worst customer service ever. American Express on the other hand is a model citizen for customer service. I was actually thinking of going back to Amex.

I don't know anyone who has an American Express card (in Canada). I don't think most places here accept it, but I could be wrong.
Unfortunately, you are. I don’t know that I’ve been to a restaurant in Canada that doesn’t accept Amex.

That is definitely a violation of their merchant agreement. Amex does not allow that. Report them.

I don’t know where you went, but I found several places in Ireland that accept it. I would peg their acceptance rate (based on my own experience) around 65%. Acceptance in the UK is even higher. And I definitely wouldn’t say “many stores in the US won’t take it either.” Acceptance in the US is like 99%. Are you just making up stuff?
