I wish they would have just kept unlimited but raised the price. I would pay $60 for true unlimited data.

That kind of stuff you wanna do on wifi. Charges will rape your wallet.

I'm aware that downloading apps and such over the mobile network reduces gb data. But if I were to do it over Wi-Fi, do I just have to turn off the mobile network? Will I still be able to receive messages and calls with only Wi-Fi on?

Nothing so complicated, just connect to wifi and it will use wifi to download apps and music.... Then you're using wifi for apps and music etc and you will receive calls and texts just fine.... No need to disable mobile network.

Oh ok, thank you for replying.

So this morning I walked into the office and ran a couple of SpeedTest.net tests. At the time I was averaging about 19 Mbps on LTE.

After that I started streaming some podcasts. Right now I'm sitting at 5.1 GB received and a few hundred MB sent.

Just ran SpeedTest.net again and I'm averaging .47 Mbps. So I've obviously been throttled.

To test it I've done some browsing....slow, but I won't die waiting on it
I've watched some YouTube videos....low res, but not completely unwatchable
I've streamed some podcasts....no real noticable difference
I've listended to music via iCloud....again no real noticable difference

So overall I'm going to say the experience being throttled on LTE is nowhere nearly as bad as being throttled on 3G (from what I've seen...but not experienced).

Hopefully all will be reset in the morning. :D

I have ATT unlimited plan, and I've used 4.3 gigabytes since I got the 5 on launch day. I just chatted with an ATT rep about my high usage, and he said that any time your wifi signal deteriorates, the 5 will switch and use your LTE data so that your connection is not interrupted...this should be a much bigger issue. If I am on wifi, I want to use my wifi data (even if it is slower than cellular data). He told me that the only way to avoid this is to turn off cellular data while connected to wifi. This needs to be fixed by AT&T and Apple, especially since it has been confirmed by AT&T and isn't speculative.

Wow they throttle you to such a low speed? That's ridiculous  guess they're really trying to get everyone off these unlimited plans

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am some 7 days out from my next billing period. Perhaps, I'll push it, as well. I'm curious what the throttle will be like. Then again, I have been on Edge (iP2g) for the past 5+ years. The LTE speeds since 9.21 have been fantastic.

ETA: I have used approximately 812mb on my unlimited plan, since 9.21. LOL, I take it I'm not taking full advantage of my available data.

You'd think AT&T would up the throttling limit to around 0.8/1.0Mbps while on LTE.

I wouldn't listen to him. Apple took that feature out after the last beta. And when it was in, there were switches to control it.

6gb and 2 weeks left until my first month is over, thank you unlimited vzw :D
I usually stream pandora everyday after work on the home audio setup. The battery life has been amazing as well, I came from Android os and I seriously couldnt be happier

Right but this is the exact same issue that Verizon had to release a Carrier Update to fix.

Just got this message from AT&T:

My usage currently shows 4.7 GB received, 208 MB sent.

5 days left!

I know on Verizon that on LTE, they cannot do across the board throttling (for remainder of cycle) on any user. All they are allowed to do is what is referred to as "network optimization", and that cannot last 24/7 for the remainder of your cycle. It is supposed to only kick in when the towers are under load.

So I activated at work w/o having my PC to sync all my music. I've been listening to music all day and just recalled that it must all be streaming down from iCloud. DOH! Think I MAY leave this way and just let it all sync down on LTE as I play it. The cool thing is it has been so smooth that I never even noticed it!

Ohhhh sheet boees!

Just coming back to confirm the throttling has been removed and I'm back to my full (slow compared to others) speed LTE.

Pfft? 5GB a month? I tether my iPhone (via jailbreak) and I use around 20 gigs a month.. on 3G. I don't subscribe to home broadband, and I'm typing this via my phone's 3G.

Gotta love true unlimited plans.

Verizon or Sprint I assume?
