Good alternative to Microsoft Visual Studio

Hi,

I have a mini-project coming up which requires Microsoft Visual Studio, but since it is not available for Mac is there any good alternative which I can use to code in .NET?

how about VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, install Windows as virtual instance and continue using VS.

The only thing I'm aware of that's even remotely similar is MonoDevelop.

I have already installed windows 8 using parallels but it is very very slow so that's not a good option for me.
