Is there any good software for doing essays like microsoft word but for the mac! I'm gonna install iwork 08 2mrw! Maybe there is a program on there that can help me with my documents for essays or HW. Maybe iWork08 will do the trick! Anyone have any ideas?

You do realize Microsoft Office is for Mac too right? Anyways, I would recommend iWork '08 over Microsoft Office 2004. Also check out OpenOffice/NeoOffice.
As others have mentioned Pages and Neooffice are perfect and will give you the ability of creating great looking essays (the content is up to you 
)

You'll be happy to know that all of the suggestion made so far include spelling checkers, so you won't keep making mistakes like "2mrw"
Applefan, I had MSOffice, but since iWork 08 I have not looked back, and uninstalled all that distasteful Microsoft stuff!
