good backup drive for rmbp haswell?

looking for a decent quality backup drive to take on the road, needs to be 1TB.

My question is what is the benefit of having thunderbolt on a HDD drive? surely you won't see that much of a speed increase over usb 3.0 to warrant the price unless the drive has an ssd in it?

all thoughts welcome 🙂
