The processor is pretty old, I want to get something that’s going to last for a while.
Honestly the 2015 model isn’t that bad processor wise. You’d easily get 6-7 years of heavy, quality use out of that machine. Ask most people still using their unibody models from 2012 if they have any major issues, and most will say no (except for the few with one of the issues those models had). Apple does a decent job keeping up the software so that their 5-7 year old devices can keep running well, IMO.

I only upgraded from my 2012 15” MBP with a 2.7 i7 to a 2017 13” MBP w/TB because I needed a machine that natively supported dual external monitors, otherwise that machine was still fast (I did upgrade the harddrive to an SSD).

Personally, I wouldn't touch a MBP until the crappy keyboards are just a bad memory. Even with the keyboard replacement program, it's a pain in the *** to be without it while it gets repaired, possibly multiple times. I say wait or look elsewhere.

- Sent using my 8 year old MacBook Pro with working original keyboard.

No, don't get a MacBook until Apple fixes all its problems. Keyboard with keys getting stuck once a month, battery life around 6 hours of moderate usage, very poor port selection, useless touch bar and so on. For 2K dollars, I would definitely recommend you a surface book. I've been using it for a while and it's been wonderful - way better keyboard, battery life is around 16 hours, touchscreen, tablet, quite powerful with a 1050 card. It's my main laptop now and I'm really impressed by it :)

There might be a refresh in the next month or so. If you can wait, would suggest waiting to see what the refresh brings with it.

I was going to wait until the next iteration of the laptop, but I decided to spend my extra money on clothes and stuff.

I bought a max spec late 2016 TB MBP from B&H Photo and Video for more than $1000 off and no taxes. I couldn't pass up the offer.. especially after hearing about Apple's decision to do the keyboard replacement program.

If you already have the 3018 MacBook Pro, why buy a new one? (signature says so:p)

I cannot recommend the 2016/2017 MacBook Pros.
They are HIGHLY prone to keyboard failures, among other things.

If you absolutely, positively HAVE-TO-BUY a MacBook Pro now, my recommendations:
- New 2015-design MacBook Pro 15" (Apple still builds and sells these NEW)
- Apple refurbished 2015 MacBook Pro 13" (not sure if the Apple Store is still selling these)

Otherwise, if you can hold out, wait until the new models come out.
But even then, DON'T BUY when they first come out -- wait a month or so to see what the new user impressions are.

I'm going to walk over at lunch and find out since I bought it in-store. Gotta get my Beats too (did education pricing)

That's a good Q. Maybe even Saturday? I've seen products show up there on Saturdays before.
I'll report back in an hour.

Agreed. I'm not in a hurry so I am willing to wait until 2019 for them to fix the darn keyboard issues.

How do you know they aren’t fixed on the newest 2018 model? I think people are going to keep wishing for the old chiclet keyboard with scissor movement mechanics to come back, but I hate to say I EXTREMELY doubt that will be happening. Apple has never been a company to revert to previous designs.. they persevere until it’s corrected or they make an entirely new redesign.

I'l wait for the back to school promo to see if I can get anything free alongside the laptop ;)

We don't. Only time will tell. I am not going to spend money on an expensive laptop that impedes the fundamental experiences of using a laptop in the first place. That's why I'm willing to wait until the general consensus says it's been fixed. If I am going to drop some 4k on a laptop, it better not have any glaring issues.

I’d agree that’s smart, I wish I could’ve waited longer but I ended up buying a 2017 13” MBP because my 2014 model had some expensive repairs that wasn’t worth it IMO.

If you can wait, I would too... let other people be the first to test the machines and have the growing pains if there are any.

Just got back. They didn't know when they would have them in the store (Charleston, SC) but he was like "definitely return and buy the new one it's a huge upgrade you don't want to miss out" so I was happy to hear that they weren't trying to swindle me (it's happened at that location). Ordered it online. Got a free pair of $300 Beats already picked up. Will just return on Monday when the new one is supposed to arrive. Might resell the Beats, might leave at work. Not sure. Regardless, the timing was perfect and I'm excited for a 6 core machine with true tone.

Does Apple wait to charge your credit card until it ships?
