Can anyone recommend a good little laser printer that’s not too pricey. I think I’ve seen a couple recommendations here before, but it’s been a while.

I can no longer deal with my pathetic inkjet that does a page a minute.

I want one that’ll do wireless printing for sure, a nice amount of pager per minute, and copying.

Brother make some nice (and inexpensive) laser printers.

+1 for Brother printers!

I've found that Brother has better support for old printers and new OSes.

I won't be updating to Catalina any time soon, but Brother released their drivers for it, and my 11-year old printer in late September.

And every year, they're up front about issuing a statement about their support of the new version of macOS.

That said, Catalina has appeared to have brought about the EOL for ControlCenter, so ImageCapture or another front end for any scanning function will have to be used. Gives me another reason not to update.

Yes. Image Capture is the preferred way of scanning with the Brother. I discussed this with their customer service last week. Really not difficult. This is the only time I’ve needed to contact their CS and the experience was positive.

Bought a black and white Brother HL-L2375DW recently, and it's great!
(Amazon price regularly dips below £99, so keep an eye out for a bargain)

Upsides:
- So much faster than an inkjet
- Holds a full ream of paper in the tray
- Quite quiet surprisingly
- Fairly cheap, the included starter ink alone will probably last you a year if you print infrequently
- Proper office features, like double side print, SMTP support (get email when it needs attention)
- All modern features like Secure AirPrint are supported
- Never worrying about dried up (or artificially 'expired') ink.

Downsides:
- The web admin interface is not that clean.
- So many features and ports are open by default, it's actually a bit of a pain to secure initially, not that you likely need to though!
- On the wireless network it only supports 2.4GHz.
- The one line LCD display is awful to use, fortunately you probably never need to.

EDIT: Ah! sorry, it won't do copying, unless you 'scan' with your iPhone and then print!

I’m bumping this because I still haven’t bought a printer, and I’m desperate at this point. I have a couple more questions though:

Is it gonna be super slow to print on wifi? I don’t have the greatest wifi (satellite), but it’s decent. I just don’t want to wind up getting a page or two a minute. I can get a wired one, but that’ll eliminate my being able to print from phone or iPad, which I do fairly often.

Anyone have a particular model Brother that’s wifi that they love?

How long will toner last? I don’t print a ton, but man when you need a printer, you just need one ya know? I don’t know if toner ever dries out or ruins if you aren’t printing often enough.

This is great to hear. I've had my eye on Brother for when my Inkjet finally dies. With each Mac OS upgrade my Canon experience gets more frustrating.

The fact that you get your Internet packets to/from satellite shouldn't be a factor in the speed of transmission of print jobs to the printer. The communication between your computer or iPad or iPhone and the printer is going to be entirely local, and the speed will depend on local factors: what wifi protocol is in use (801.11 b, g, n, or ac in ascending order of speed), what frequency band (2.4gHz or 5gHz), the placement of your wifi access point/router relative to the printer and transmitting device, etc.

Laser printers are better for intermittent print jobs, because the technology doesn't require the printer to use up consumables every time it starts up a job after a period of non-use. Inkjet printers have to prime their nozzles each time they start up, which is why the cost per page skyrockets when you only print infrequently.
