BB will survive without a doubt. Like every other company it's adjusting its cost structure to remain profitable in negative-flat-slow growth economy of the future.

Yeah, Best Buy won't go under. Even if they are suffering through the current economic situation, and the new socialist regime, so is every other company. As mentioned before, they are pretty much THE only large nationwide electronics superstore. They have a good control of their market, and need not worry about competition. There may be layoffs, but then again, who ISN'T laying off right now?

id be shocked if bb went the same way as cc as there isnt really another electronics outlet store like bb really

Fry's, anyone? Better selection, more stock, more anime, and frankly puts BB to shame. Only thing BB would have over Frys is the iPhone.

Since you have no idea what a 'socialist regime' is, I suggest you refrain from posting such nonsense.

Speaking of nonsense, if BB had such "good control" over their market they wouldn't be reducing head count. Don't they need people to handle the influx of all those Circuit City customers?

Need not worry about competition. I can't believe Apple's BoD hasn't contacted you in case Jobs doesn't return from his leave of absence.

If only they would have followed the Micro Center business model.

I don't know what they strategy is, but the Micro Center get a lot more business then any of the best buys. It goes beyond prices and selection, which for the most part (computer wise at least) the two stores are similar.
However Micro Center is inviting and even now trying to find a place to park at Micro Center is like trying to find real help at best buy.

I'm sorry best buy sucks, and they really don't pay their retail people as much as they should for what they expect out of them.

..And in the retail sector outside of GMs no one gets a severance, so I think the bust buy people would be better off then most retail people.

Any best buy employees here? Did this happen today?

Sorry, I hate Fry's. Horrible service. Granted the selection can be better on some items. But getting hounded by the customer service drives me a freaking wall.

To be honest I really don't shop that much at either. Unless it is something I just have to have today. I pretty much do all of my shopping online.

They updated the original article several times. No big layoffs. Some reorganizing and pay cuts, but that's mostly it.

Nothing crazy. Best Buy is fine and stable. I'm sure they'd like to have their net profile higher than 570 million (Q1 2009), but they're far from going under. They'll be going through a period where sales are usually lower so they're just trying to cut costs.

Best Buy - :(

I NEVER trusted Best Buy, one of the MR members summarized the employees perfectly..

Freak Squad. ;)

Best Buy has its place. It's not great, but if you just walk in and know what you want, the prices can be good. It's a convenient place to buy something such as a stove, or even a TV. If there's something very specific that I want, and I know I can get it from a more specialised electronics online store, I'd rather get it there. Bug again, there are many things available at BB that I wouldn't mind buying just because it's close and convenient.

Wait - what? I get completely ignored at Fry's. Just the way I like it!

Same here. I've never been hounded at any of the Fry's stores that I've been to, and that's even including the grand openings for the one in Las Vegas back in 2002, and the one in Roseville, CA this past year!

That's too bad, but yeah, they'll survive. If anything, wouldn't this serve to make my Best Buy experience better? Just getting rid of the "Bottom rung" employees that follow you around and then can't really help you when you finally tell them what you need?

Absolutely. They also do 30 day price match, so as long as you pay attention, you don't get gouged too heavily.

Sometimes, you just have to have it now.
