Well, I personally am a huge Salinger fan. If you haven't read it, Franny and Zooey is delightful. His Nine Stories are also great. Also if you haven't had a chance to read any Dave Eggers over the past several years his books have been released, I highly highly recommend him. He is very very talented. Check out "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" and "You Shall Know Our Velocity" (Preferably the revised edition).

With Spring Break starting for me tomorrow I went to the library to pick up some books to read over break.

I got the newest Vince Flynn Book ( Mitch Rapp series) and also The Black Echo which is Connely's first in the Harry Bosch series.

I just finished The Camel Club by Balducci and I must say I was disappointed.

I was curious as to fiction and nonfiction reccommendations that you all might have.

I'm currently addicted to George R.R Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series.

There are four books, and it is slightly similar to Lord of the Rings ...ish.

lots of sonderful suggestions here..... also my .02:

The entire Enders Game saga

Wheel of Time series (11 books now i think)

The Day After Tomorrow - Allan Folsom (sp?) NOT affiliated with the movie

Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson (my fav) or anything by stephenson for that matter

In Search of Fierra and Siege of Dome by Stephen Lawhead

...shall i go on? =]

I'll throw another vote behind The Corrections and also suggest A Star Called Henry, 'Tis, Teacher Man, and a few others if you're down with Irish literature.

Then I'll give you a change of pace by suggesting Going After Cacciato and Look at the Harlequins! (and if you like those, come back and I'll give you a metric buttload of postmodern lit. to look into).

If you like SciFi, try this:

Pandora's Star, by Peter F Hamilton.

Hmm month old thread.. what am I doing contributing to it's necromancy? :)

"Memoirs of an Ex-Hippie" is a great read, it chronicles the author's journey through the counter-culture movement from coast to coast. A definite read for anyone interested in the hippie movement or even for those who don't know much about it at all, especially for those whose parents were from that era like mine are.

"The Heart is a Little to the Left" is what I'm reading now. It's a collection of essays on public morality, it's a pretty short book though, only 77 pages I believe.

J.D Salinger is, in my opinion, one of the best writers of our time. I noticed you didn't mention Catcher in the Rye? May I ask why?

I work at Borders so I get free books all the time. The book I am reading right now and is absolutely a delight is "Sex Lives of Cannibals" by J. Maarten Troost. Every single page is satrical and hillarious. Highly recommended!
