It's a pretty subjective issue; I guess it boils down to whether or not you're going to be happy with a 4S that has 48GB less storage than what you have now until you can upgrade it again? Is the cash a big motivator?

I wouldn't even consider it personally if I had a 5, but that's because I don't really need the cash and the phone is obviously inferior to the one you have.

Do you make use of the majority of the alloted 64GB you have on your i5? If you do, then it obviously wouldn't make sense since you would have to pick and choose the apps, music and videos you would want to keep on the 16GB 4S. Now on the other hand, if you don't use up a lot space on your i5 and you need the extra cash, the deal would probably be beneficial to you.

Not even close to a fair trade. If I wanted to walk in to an apple store today to buy an iPhone 5 64GB it would cost $849. So he's trading you a ($250-$300) phone + $350 cash, doesn't even come close to that the price of a 64GB iPhone 5. Maybe if your iPhone 5 was 16GB it might be a fair trade, but even then I wouldn't go back to 4S.

im currently taking advantage of the 32gb space range but no where near 64gb.
TGI made a good point value wise and i was thinking about that more than the space being beneficial to me or not. i think with that alone i might have to give this a pass

thanks guys

If your going by full price of the phone the 4s is $550. So then it would be $900, but you can compare the price of brand new phones when these phones are used, obviously if he puts the iPhone 5 on Craigslist he isn't getting $850 for it, and the guy with the 4s isn't getting $550.

Your logic is absolutely correct, but I still wouldn't do the trade. Would you do the trade, why/why not?

The trade is not bad depending on the needs. If you need more space and can't afford to spend more money on a larger iPhone 5 it's a no brainer. In his shoes I would just sell the 16gb 5 and buy a 64 gb 5. ( if I had a use for a 64gb pho e) It depends on your financial situation. I have 55k sitting in the bank so it's not a big deal. That said I would never pay more than $500 for any phone.

I agree. I have about 250k sitting in 3 bank accounts but I, too, would never pay more than $500 for any phone.

I have $0 in the bank and would trade my car for a rotary telephone.

I don't know if I should cry or laugh.
Either way; the deal IS fair. A 4S is the second latest model, an unlocked phone is more money than a regular phone, and 350 is enough for a pony.
I traded my white 4S 16gb plus 200 for a white iPhone 5 16gn unlocked

I wouldn't do the trade no I love my iphone 5 and I wouldn't trade it for the lowest iPhone 4S even if its unlocked exspecillaly the iPhone 5 being the most expensive you could get. I was pointing out to the OP that he should look at the used price and go by that factor.

Can't go back to the iPhone 4S after having experienced the 5.

As far as your trade, it's pretty even if you don't use your space. A used 64GB 5 will net you around $550-600 on Craigslist while the 4S will get him around $300.

No way is the 16GB 4S worth $500 which is what the seller is asking plus giving you $350. If he offered you $500 plus the phone, it would be a fair trade.

I still wouldn't do this deal. I would out rite sell your phone, and then go find a deal on a 4S. To me, the I5 is worth a lot more than $220 upgrade. The only way I would even think about something like this is I was getting closer to $325 to $350. I doubt your going to get that much out of someone with a 64 4S, which is why I would sell yours, and then find a good deal on a 4S.

I don't think I would ever publicly disclose how much I had in my bank account because a) its nobody's business and b) I would be afraid I wouldn't be taken seriously lol.

LOL

That post was not supposed to be taken seriously. It was my response to the post I quoted, basically expressing that I wasn't taking it seriously.

If that makes any sense. :p

If you need the extra money then I would do the trade. The 4S is still an excellent phone, of course the screen is smaller. The smaller gb capacity may be a factor but you can always work around that coming from a 64gig iPhone 5.

Op I'm trying to understand what you want. Are you only going to trade if it's a good deal ( which doesn't make sense) or are you trading because you need the money?

Don't do the trade. Instead sell your phone on Craigslist but be realistic about how to price it and then don't budge on your price when the bottomfeeders come calling. It may take a few days or even weeks but someone honest and realistic who needs/wants your phone will be willing to pay a fair price. Then you can shop around and find a decent deal on a used 4s. I sold my pristine 32GB white 4s on Craigslist in December for $350 without even trying. I had the new 5 and just wanted to get the 4s sold... I could have sold it 20 times based upon the emails I received.
