Finally found some time to get the Mac to the basement to hook up to the router. It's now updated to 10.5.8 and iLife 09' is now installed. Any programs I should get before I disconnect from the internet? Already have TenFoxFour and VLC Player. Also have a PowerPC version of Minecraft!

Just ordered an AirPort Extreme card! This has been needed for a long time. Without it connected to the internet I don't use it too much.

Some people have has success with with putting a safety pin or paperclip into the antenna port. This of course runs the risk of damaging the antenna port.

Good upgrades for PowerMac G5?

Yeah I am going to see if a paper clip wrapped in tin foil works. Also, will any G5 video card work in my G5? Because the slot pattern on the 64mb card is weird.

Any AGP G5 video card will work in it. You can even put in regular non-ADC AGP cards, as long as they are flashed to Mac ROMs. You just cannot put in a G4 ADC card, they won't fit.

You can use any AGP video card - I'm not sure why the FX5200 has the strange connector.

AGP G5s have a AGP Pro slot with a power tab for an ADC screen. All of the G5's OEM cards except for the ATI 9600 have the same connectors. AGP G5's can take regular 8x and I think 4x cards as well without a problem, so long as they have a Mac ROM.

Thanks for clarifying that Intell, the only G5 OEM cards I've come across were the 9600XTs. Although the G5s will work with most 4x AGP cards, some will cause kernel panics (such as flashed Geforce 6800GTs with pins 3 & 11 taped)

That card will not work in your machine. It is a PCI-e card that will only work in the late-2005 G5s. You need an AGP card. That card is also the slowest of the cards the late-2005 G5 can use as well. While it is a nice card, it is a bit limited by its clock speeds.

What would you recommend?

For a cheap good card, I'd suggest the ATI 9600 XT. They are 128MB and loads better than the GeForce 5200. They go for about $10-$25 on eBay and there's a bunch of them.

I plan on editing 720p video on it. Would a 128mb card be good for that or would I need a 256mb card?

The 128MB ATI 9600 XT should be able to drive that very well. Just make sure you don't get the ATI 9600 Pro, it's slightly inferior to the 9600 XT.
