In the graphic above are you really comparing display tech from 2014 to the current 2018 iPhone x? really? Why? Is it any wonder why current display tech would win?

I have had the Note 8 and S9+ and iPhone 8 Plus and current my daily driver is iPhone X.

Samsung displays are better than the iphones.
Displaymates agrees...

Got a Moto X4 this Prime Day for $160 after Amex 20% off. Older model but I wanted the higher water resistance rating plus not a fan of the fingerprint sensor location on the G6. Should be fun.

The X4 is a good phone, although I like the form factor of the G6 better. Unfortunately, neither phone is fully compatible with any major US carrier, as it lacks B71, and AT&T and Verizon won't fully activate VoLTE/VoWiFi on most unlocked phones. My G6 is on Sprint now, but I think it will end up on Project Fi for international travel in a year when the Sprint deal ends, unless they want to give me Unlimited data for $15/mo or less. It might not even be worth that much.

The Moto series are a nice way of keeping my foot in Android without spending a ton on flagship devices. I've been a fan since the first Moto G (which actually still performs the basics quite decently). :D

The OG Moto G held up better than just about anything else of it's time, but it's still very long in the tooth. I had to use mine for about an hour and a half like 2 months ago when my S7 was in the shop for a new battery, and it was pretty painful. Still, I love the size and form factor of the thing.

I just wanted it for Project Fi, anyway. Given how much I use my iPad (ergo, quite reliant on iOS Continuity between iPhone and iPad), I doubt I'll be able to switch to Android as my daily driver. Granted, I don't need to have the latest iPhones, either. As long as battery holds and barring any accidents, I expect I can comfortably use my iPhone 7 for at least 2 more years.

I find the OG Moto G doesn't compare well with newer, faster devices (which is to be expected). However, it didn't seem to slow down noticeably compared to its original performance. :)

I started off with an iPhone, loved it at first but eventually i grew tired of being locked down and having little customisation. I actually think the iPhone X is a great phone I've said it on these forums a few times its just not for me. Im pretty fair but when people talk trash i'm going to put them in their place. Nobody that has actually owned an S9 would say it lags and if it is lagging there is an issue with it and it should be exchanged. If you actually want to check out what a well respected You Tuber thinks about how the S9 runs check out Flossy Carters Videos, he tells things as they are, no bias like you see on a forum like this.

Last I checked, the S9 just came out. They usually don't lag out of the gate when released.

This video shows a 2-year-old S7 with latest oreo still runs rings around the ip6s with ios11.

Everyone (except certain ifans) knows that Iphone peformance degrades much worse than android over time. Every new iOS update is guaranteed to degrade performance of older generations. This is apple planned obsolescence.

I have the Note 4-sold, Note 5 and s8+. They didnt lag over time like you said. Your experience is not the typical scenario. Some performance degradation (esp Oreo) occurs when the phone has been up for over a week compared to a fresh booted phone. I just set auto-reboot every week and everything is back to zippy fast.

Umm no. iPhone is smoother and doesn't degrade like an Android phone does. And I owned an S7 Edge that lagged badly at it's 2 year birthday. At times it would be smooth but most of the time, it would have massive lag. And it's a known issue with that phone especially after 1 year. Anyone can see that on the AndroidCentral forums. That video doesn't prove anything other than it was OKAY at that time.

But you also are one of the few here who have proven to be Android people and will make up lies to make your Androids look better. I've owned almost every Samsung phone and every one lagged except the Note 7, 8, and S9+ I have now.

Yup totally not an Apple hater.

Btw most of your posts, your either trashing Apple, the iPhone, or it’s users.

And when you get called out on it, you play the victim card and throw a little tantrum.
Yep, exactly. I went and looked, and he wasn't just replying to people. He can't stand the iPhone is better in some cases.

Yeah, it's a good Project Fi phone, and great for international. Unfortunately for domestic there is no Project Fi phone right now that supports B71.

True, it doesn't degrade per se, but newer apps are still much heavier.

The s7 in video was 2 year's old when video was made. It still beat the iPhone. :). What you got to say?

Maybe you have some crap apps in your S7 that caused yours to lag.

I too own many Galaxy. I don't find them lag as time goes by. But heh, I just don't use "words" only and keep insisting like you do :p . I posted a video that shows a 2 year's old s7 thrashing the iPhone (which you said never lag).

Haha, whatever man. Android Central has how many users? And there is many posts that discuss this very thing about how bad the S7 became and laggy. It was one of the worst phones for it sadly. I also owned one for over 2 years, till work replaced it with

Also, your video proves nothing honestly.

Performance, on the other hand, had always been subpar. Out of all of the 2015/2016 flagships I'd owned, the S7 edge was easily the least impressive in this regard. It was the slowest to open apps, often dropped frames, and sometimes became legitimately unusable. It's also worth mentioning that Samsung devices always slow down tremendously while apps are updating in the background. Considering the S7 edge's top-notch Snapdragon 820 chipset and a more-than-adequate 4GB of RAM, this should not have been happening. I was tempted more than once to sell the phone purely because of this issue.

When the Nougat beta for the S7 and S7 edge was unveiled, I signed up in hopes of my performance issues being solved. No such luck there - my phone actually began to lag even more. I tried cache cleaning, factory resets, uninstalling apps, all to no avail. Of course, this was a beta, so I couldn't really fault the phone. Eventually, I gave up and flashed the latest Marshmallow firmware from the unlocked SM-G935U (yes, the one that still doesn't have Nougat). It wasn't much different from the T-Mobile Marshmallow firmware, though there were fewer bloat apps.

Its been out 4 months, more then enough time for it to show any slowdown if it was going to do so. I should know I've owned enough Samsung phones, my S7 lagged within a week, my S8 did a whole lot better and still actually runs great on the Oreo update. Ive already told you to check on any of the You tube videos from any of the main tech reviews and you will see the S9 simply is not slowing down. The iPhone X is a great phone despite its weak radio and that damn notch but iOS is not for me.

@mib1800

No lag with my 4S, 5S, 6S and X. Each phone ran smooth for 2 years and iPhones aren’t known for getting laggy after time. Stop spreading FUD yet again. For someone who’s against FUD you’re really a proponent for it.

I’m glad to hear S9 has this long time ‘lag after so much use” issue under control. It’s been the consensus with S9 owners it’s not happening anymore and I’m reading it from android owners who aren't fan boys so I believe them.

Stop trying to spread FUD by saying that S8 and below didn’t have this issue at all and the thousands of documented reports are non existent. I read it for myself on the droid forums.

So by keeping up this facade your FUD is true when it’s fake news from you falls under trolling the forum.

Like I said, the 6s came out about same time as s7 and 2 years later and as shown in video the 6s with ios11 lagged way more than S7 with Oreo. This just debunk your statement the 2015/16 flagships s7 is the less impressive. From what I see, newer firmware for Galaxy improves the phone unlike iphone which doesnt age well at all (due to later crap one-size-fit-all firmware and Apple planned obsolescence).

Granted early release firmware may have issues but what you are trying to do is to slag every Galaxy based on your untypical experience. My Note 5 with the latest firmware is a breeze in performance (based on its generation). My s8+ updated to Oreo performs better than before. I also saw S7 with Oreo speed test videos bettered IPX in performance and better battery performance compared to 7/7s.

Have you ever thought maybe your s7 had hardware issue. My Note 4 (sold) had internal memory defects which caused the phone to lag on occasions. I had it exchanged and then it had no more lag.

Im sorry but i have to disagree, the S7 was a laggy POS. I know a few friends who all had the same phone and we all agreed they lagged like hell. The S8 on Oreo, Note 8 and S9 are the first Samsung phones to break away from the Lag that Samsung has been so well known for and only the S9 is truely lag free, the Note 8 and S8 still have minor hiccups.

Then are you saying all the performance degradation/battery issue reported here with ios11 on older hardware are ALL FAKE NEWS?? Wow, talk about FUD. :p

Then you have to be more clear what circumstances when the lag occurred (esp those reported in the forum). If you keep installing apps or install some background hogging apps or you clogged your internal SD or never reboot your phone for months, the slowdown is inevitable. Do a reset and get rid of all your unused apps or run your Android like an Iphone (go into Developer options and set "Dont keep activities") and I bet the phone will not be laggy.

My Note 5 does not lag due to fact that my family member using it only install apps that are being used. Go choke your iphone with many unnecessary background enabled apps and see how it does. As the video I showed proved that an S7 is capable of not laggy next to 6s (after 2 years with newer firmware). Granted on certain usage patterns (with various different apps/firmware) s7 may lag. Same can be said about 6s or any other phones. There are so many variables in play. But what is conclusive is the s7 can perform faster then 6s (after couple years have passed) - based on the conditions the speed test was carried out.

I dont have s7 but I have note 5. They are from same era. My Note5 does not lag. Here you have to be discerning what is "lag". If you compare s7 with newer s8 then of course s7 "lag". Hardware is different.

They aren’t from the same era. The note 5 is the same generation as the S6. The S7 edge is the same generation as the note 7. I don’t have any personal experience with the S7 edge beyond the 3 months I used it as a secondary phone. I didn’t have any issues with it but I didn’t use it constantly enough to say either way. However I do agree that people’s definition and perception of lag can differ.

I've had an S7 for two years, and the weirdest part about the lag is that sometimes is insanely bad. Other times it's virtually nonexistent. So it's hard to compare at any one point in time, and depends on what you're doing, and if you just rebooted. The iPhone might not be as fast, but it's a lot more consistent, FWIW. I had to stop using Google Messages on my S7, as it got so slow that it would take 10-20 seconds to open a text thread. Textra, meanwhile, is blazing fast, and has absolutely zero lag. Go figure.

I wonder if the S9 just go so powerful with the Qualcomm 845 that it finally is able to muscle through the lag on BloatWiz that was never there with near stock Android 5 years ago with a Qualcomm 400?

Given how slick the S9 is though, I'd seriously consider getting an S9 Active, S9+, or Note 9 at this point. They seem to have addressed the battery degradation issues, they're much smoother, and they have excellent hardware all around. BloatWiz still sucks, but I can live with Bloatwiz and the Google Launcher.

With all the various reports about different positives and negatives in an iOS release, these comments fit right in line. So basically it’s not fake news, it’s not news at all as opposed to the hyperbole above.

There’s truth to what you said, credit goes to QUALCOMM who has redesigned the CPU architecture, at least on the single core to work more efficiently than its previous predecessor the 835.

Unfortunately 845 do not perform as well as the bionic A11 chip does on all its Cores. One of the reasons why iPhones excel in loading games and graphic intensive apps faster than S9. Gaming on A11 using all cores more efficiently. It’s why A11 does so much better on synthetic benchmarks that test the muscle of the all CPU cores.

However day to day applications is where it counts and daily interaction with your phone and that mostly happens on the single Core and why S9 does well now. It’s not necessarily that it’s much more powerful more than architecturally better than 835.

No lag on my Note 8.
Not a bad phone by any means. I do want a smaller form factor and I do think all the features are overkill, wouldn't mind keeping it but I kind of think I want to go back to Apple...

I had a play around with my husband’s note 8 last night and there was no lag. He’s had it for 10 months.

Are missing the ecosystem?

My Note 8 had it every once in a while lag. Very very rarely. But a lot of times the lag gets worse after the major updates of Android. So guess we will see if those do it. But because they have more ram than the other devices, they should be better since Android is a memory hog unlike iOS.

Android lets you multitask, so if you are doing lots of things at the same time it can feel laggy. An example is having auto updates for apps on. As time goes on, you'll probably have more apps installed and they'll get auto updated while you are doing things and that can make it feel laggy. I just turn off auto updates, use the goggle launcher and Google keyboard.

Qualcomm's chips are freaking amazing. Their CPUs and radios are both incredible. HOWEVER, Android should not need a Qualcomm 845 in order to be smooth. That's Samsung's problem with BloatWiz needing several times more CPU power than stock Android to be smooth.

Unfortunately 845 do not perform as well as the bionic A11 chip does on all its Cores. One of the reasons why iPhones excel in loading games and graphic intensive apps faster than S9. True the A11 is two years ahead of where the 845 is, but Android phones are two years ahead of iPhone on the radio side with the Qualcomm X20, Gigabit LTE, and 4x4 MIMO.

However day to day applications is where it counts and daily interaction with your phone and that mostly happens on the single Core and why S9 does well now. It’s not necessarily that it’s much more powerful more than architecturally better than 835.

That's an interesting take on it. The 835 seems pretty good too, it's the 825 that struggles sometimes under the massive load of useless cruft in BloatWiz.

What you call bloatwiz are useful features to me.

What you call bloatwiz are useful features to me.

Like what? It's just cruft and garbage laid over the top of Android, unlike Motorola, which puts a few useful things into Android and doesn't hijack the whole UI and try to turn it into a poorly executed fake iPhone. BloatWiz isn't too bad if you use Google Now Launcher, Google Keyboard, and a different texting app, but it's still not quite the same, and you take a huge performance hit because Samsung wants to make everything look like their crappy attempt at an iPhone clone as opposed to looking like Android and being proud to be running Android like Motorola and the Pixel series.
