Replacing laptop with iPP and having a dedicated iMac at the house. Enough of this chasing and waiting for Apple to get their **** together.

This is pretty much what I'm doing at the moment.

The iPad Pro does the "on the go" stuff better and is easier to carry.

Except i didn't go for the iMac because i built something way better for less.

Yeah, coming to the same conclusion depending on the verdict on the 15" i7 MBP with regard to throttling. I've been a MBP user since 2006, and have never owned an iMac, so this will be a shift for me. Just hoping for no new (negative) surprises.

I went the other way. Goodbye Air and iMac. Mac Mini and MBP. Mini as iTunes server, Photos library, and office web surfer.

MBP as primary machine.

Hope you got these a while ago and are just posting it now. Because both new iMacs and iPad Pros are around the corner...

To each his own, many people are fine with an iPad as their secondary device, no knocks on that. I am in need of desktop apps, and just as important, keyboard and mouse. I can't get that experience with the iPad.

“I’m waiting for Apple to get their **** together, so I went out and bought two of their products to replace one!”

Really, not sure I get the logic here. Also poor timing because you just bought two products that have updates right around the corner.

Are you talking about the machine in your signature? Did you build yourself a hackintosh? kindly share specs in PM if you did!

I always feel restricted on the iPad... even while just surfing the web.
(Or posting on MacRumors ;) )

Only ever use it for traveling, when i know that i won't be using it alot.
And to control my media system

I was contemplating precisely this option, for the past month.

However, with the 2018 13" being announced, I've reverted back to the original plan of MBP for everything, no iMac and no iPP.

As a previous poster mentioned, the iPP is still limiting in may areas - many listed in the thread below:

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-you-you-wish-your-10-5-pro-could-do.2122977/

It would also annoy me how iOS memory management treats multi-tab browsing in that it refreshes each tab when you access it - not ideal if you happened to be composing a msg in that tab!

Definitely makes sense. I have 10.5" iPP with keyboard and pencil. This thing just became a bit more like a computer after iOS 11. Keyboard is so useful and I put away all my books and carry this only to the courses. With the pencil, it's really enjoying to take notes.
Well.. I took the same decision. I'm selling my 15" late 2016 MacBook Pro and bought an 2017 iMac. I like my 2016 15" however with these intel lies about tdp and apple's obsession to make always thinner and lighter, it won't be a safe bet to upgrade 2018 or 2019 or 2020 maybe, I don't know.
Btw, if you don't have an iPP, just wait for the the next release.

I did this. I built the desktop that I was hoping Apple would, and I pair it with the iPad Pro 12.9” with Logi Create. I remote back using Parallels when needed. Works great for me. All of the desktop apps I use have campanion apps on the iPad. Scrivener, Aeon Timeline, Affinity Photo and Illustrator, Procreate (iPad only), MS Office, Numbers, Pages, etc., Evernote, Todoist, and a bunch of consumption type stuff around that.

Man, I have never had that composing thing happen to me on my iPad Pro. Weird. If anything it is the opposite problem. I forget about a message I started weeks ago and it is still there. :D

Did that for a while years back. But the ipp just couldn't function well as a laptop replacement, and the imac eventually slowed to a crawl and died. I wish there was a perfect solution here somewhere.

Lucky you! A quick Google search sadly shows this is a very common problem, and reflects how iOS manages memory.

I’ve gone so far as to sell my MBP, but am waiting to see what Apple announces regarding the IPP and iMac.
My iPad Air 2 and mid 2010 27” iMac work just fine for now. And maybe I’ll not need to upgrade at all. We’ll see.
