This is actually very interesting. I have heard that Lenovos really dipped when they went over to the chiclet keyboard models. I will probably go out soon and try to find a very clean x220 that I can just put away until my current one dies.

They really did. More plastic and less magnesium seems like the most likely culprit. Luckily their desktops seemed to do that much later, if at all. I have the D20, which is their Xeon equivalent of the Mac Pro. It runs Mavericks so well that I haven't had to reboot in weeks. Easily the most stable computer I've ever had.

Using a SD card as extra storage is fine, but your mac will never go into hibernate mode. If you use your mac often and keep it charged, its fine, but don't expect to keep the 30 day standby.

Use SharpKeys under windows to remap one of the Command keys to a Control key (leave the other wine to be the Windows key).

Trackpad++ has some options to fix the weird apple touchpad drivers.

Lenovo was the last straw for me for Windows computers. I've had the delight of experiencing all PC brands and they're pretty much all junk. Don't get complacent though, Apple has some pretty crappy computers too. They tend to have better warranties however. I have yet to own an Apple that hasn't needed replacement or some major repair. The Airs I've owned all go in for a few screen replacements. Currently rocking a retina pro with a replaced screen and an iMac 27 with a screen that needs replacing, but it's out of warranty so junk, an iPhone 5 replaced once with a bad battery and an iPad air 2 replaced with a bad speaker and due for replacement with a bad battery. my gf has the same stories.

It amazes me how some people can have these stories and other people have the opposite. I've had 6 Macs and 5 iPhones in the last 7 years (some used, some new) and none of them had any problems at all except for an older used MacBook I bought with a chipped top case (cosmetic problem) that was fixed for free because of a recall. All of the batteries have been in excellent condition, no screens or logic boards needed replacing, etc. etc.

I also have a number of friends and family members with Macs and iPhones and to my knowledge none of them have had any problems either.

My Mac crashed occasionally when sleeping requiring a motherboard replacement, the screen had a defect, and one of the fan rattled. My iPhone had a battery replacement under warranty, and then it had the sleep button fixed under recall. My iPods have all been fine. It's just the luck of the draw.

I gave up on my iPad a couple of years ago. After three years, I hated the darn thing. Ny 11" MBA is another story. A real computer that's ultra portable. I luv it.
