Google is updating the Chrome app for the iPhone and the iPad with a dedicated "AI Mode" button that matches functionality found in the desktop version of Chrome. AI Mode is located under the Google search bar, next to an Incognito Mode button.

The AI Mode option provides quicker access to Chrome's Gemini-powered AI search feature. Google says that AI Mode lets users ask more complex, multi-part questions, and follow up on answers.

Chrome users in the United States will see the AI Mode button in the Chrome apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android as of today, with Google planning to expand it to additional countries in the near future.

I have ChatGPT Plus and Gemini Pro (?) for testing purposes right now and it's shocking and scary how confidentially it is hallucinating like I asked it simple stuff like "did XY die in the season finale of Dexter" and both were making up stuff that didn't even happen.

I can't image how many people think it's only telling the truth like I hear coworkers prais it for doing competitor analysis so quickly and I am like ... how do you even know if what the results are is even true and not made up cuz it's trying to literally please you.

It also told me I need a visa (again, for testing purposes) for Oman when it's visa free for less than 14 days and when you tell it "you are wrong!" its always like "that's right! You don't need a visa ... Thank you for pointing it out "

Looking at the picture it seems that it also can remove the Dynamic Island. Gotta try it.

Although I use AI products on a daily basis, and have even introduced a 85 year old friend to AI (he used ChatGPT to write an article that got featured in the British Hosta & Hem Journal of which King Charles is the royal patron of. I'm not even making this up!), I just don't care about AI in browsers. I've just never been interested.

So people aren't using the gemini app because it's inferior to ChatGPT, and people instead are justing using Google from Google searches, so now Google is trying to force gemini more on those people. "stop trying to make fetch happen..."

You are probably talking about the AI button in the browser. Just click it, to activate your Skynet account.

Presses…DuckDuckGo mode.

I know how to search. I don’t need a summary, especially from a company whose Adsense product destroyed search results with Adsense filled spam sites.

only that duckduckgogo also wheeled out its AI this or that which I had to turn off. Firefox plastered one on by default after a recent update etc, nowhere is safe.

This comment tells you have not used the Gemini app. Google search in a browser is a one shot. Conversing with AI in the app gives you so much more.

If you have Chrome on your iPhone, get that ***** off your phone! Safari and Firefox are a thing.
If I could ad extensions to it I would use it on mobile. Used it on the desktop for 15 years now. On mobile I use Brave just for as blocking. Safari is and always has been a sad 3rd rate browser. I feel like most of the Apple software on my Apple devices is just “OK” or bad.

I tried Chrome on my phone once. I didn’t think it was nearly as good as Safari. I’m curious what features others find useful enough to use it on the phone.

Unfortunately, for most of us non-EU users, Firefox on i*OS still has to use Webkit instead of Gecko. So we still can't do things like run the full uBlock Origin ad blocker. But at least we have access to our cross-platform Firefox password keychains and bookmarks.

BTW, latest Firefoxes on desktops offer Mozilla's own chatbot integration, now, too. I don't know if the current i*OS version has Mozilla's chatbots, but at least on the desktop you can disable them in about:config. For now.

Maybe if they already use Chrome on another platform and want to have access to Google's password manager or their bookmarks?

Great to see it, expecting a quick roll out to other parts of the world. I prefer to use the desktop version but will give this a try.
