Not interested in the Google chrome book or the new macbook. Apple did this in 2008 and it wasn't received well. Why try again?

It's been like a number of years since 2008 and I barely use my USB port at all if I'm not charging up my iPhone/iPad/ParrotZik Headphones.

I wasn't willing to give it a try before but now I'm up for the MacBook 1 port challenge.

Why would you need a i5 to run chrome os?

because on the oft chance you need the horsepower to edit something somewhat large, or to compress something, it is there for you to use.

Unlike the macbook.

Just like if you're in a pinch and need to move files around, you have standard USB and dont need to be tied to a wireless signal or wifi if you're running around on the road somewhere.

unlike the macbook.

Along with the $999 Chromebook Pixel, Google also has a higher-end version, which it's calling the Ludicrous Speed (LS) model.

I'd consider one just on the name alone, man I'm such a nerd!

I don't think anyone knows. I figured it was Google's way of saying they can design drool worthy hardware too. Personally I don't think it holds a candle to the new MacBook in that area.

It was definitely a proof of concept device. And frankly it was very nice tech when it came out. I believe it was before the Macbook Retina. This is nice tech as well, though the Macbook seems to have leapfrogged it by a significant degree.

Obviously, I'm curious if it sold in any amount. Are there well to do Android Fanboys who buy stuff like this? I believe such exist for Apple (though their numbers are always grossly over estimated by the media and the forums).

Chrome OS is a bag of hurt. Why anyone would pay more than $200 for a Chrome device is beyond me.

for all intents and purposes, chrome os is a fully functional PC whereby you dont need to jump through hoops or workarounds to complete mundane tasks.

Like moving files around on a usb drive

There is one thing the Macbook has that the Pixel doesn't: software you'll use to do all that stuff.

From a purely hardware perspective, it's an awesome little computer. But ChromeOS kinda kills any appeal the hardware might have.

macbook is far less functional unless you are tied to wireless or wifi and enjoy having to push/pull everything through the cloud.

is that leapfrogging the industry?

it seems to me that google missed it's boat and is pretty much copying apple (they release something - we release something similar)

so instead of getting new ugly laptop while everyone or at least most of people in the market will buy apple laptops anyway - why don't they focus on something else that will be as desired as MacBooks are - that people will use on their computers

seems like a waste of time and money on their side..

The new Chromebook Pixel features an aluminum body, a 13-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 2560 x 1700 and an aspect ratio of 3:2, an Intel Core i5 Broadwell processor, 8GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage space.

$999 for "32GB of storage space" (not RAM, storage).

I have no use for Chrome OS, but the hardware looks nice. Makes me wonder why Apple puts so much effort into their tapered shape, even to the point of re-engineering the batteries and removing all the ports. The Pixel shows that a simple flat design can look very nice.

Yeah, until you are traveling somewhere for vacation, business, whatever with no wifi connection and realize your new macbook is a complete paper weight with a flappy dongle that needs to be attached to it to even be productive i am positive you'll be saying to yourself

i shouldve gotten the macbookpro, i dont care how much this thing weighs. it sucks.

I am telling you, these companies can drop the touch screens on their notebooks and desktops...people really would not notice. I don't understand the practicality of having touch capable screens on the aforementioned devices. Its not that great a feature.

is this what youre focused in on?

it has full connectivity at a price point that shames the macbook.

USB C and two full-sized USB ports. What is the point? Unless they want to travel down a similar 'do-everything-port' like Apple does. I'll stick with my £179 Acer Windows Chromebook thingy ... and my rMBP.

Still it's absurd that we have a single port on the new MacBook (aside from audio). That's worse than the original iBook, which had one USB port, but saw fit to throw in a modem and ethernet connection at the very least. Oh, and data transfer wasn't hogged by the power input. Oh, and of course no adapter was needed for an extra $79.

Just when I thought nothing is going to be worst than the new Macbook Air Retina, now comes the 32 GB storage Google Chrome book for $1,000. Lol
