Google apps exchange push not working since 8.4

I have my 3 google apps accounts (paid gmail) on my phone and since I did the update to 8.4 I haven't been getting reliable push alerts for new emails. I am not sure if it is a google or apple thing. I have tried deleting and adding the accounts back, restarting the phone...nothing seems to work. I have the accounts setup using the exchange service with m.google.com

Any ideas?

Push email for Gmail through the stock email app went away years ago. Are you using the Gmail app by any chance?

Not for paid (business/education) type of accounts.
