Took me a while to find it. The microphone icon appears when you are actually navigating to a destination. While it's a useful addition it still needs work.
So is this a backend update? I haven't gotten an iOS Google Maps update the past few days.

Is this working for anyone in the UK? Its something I would use a lot, but I can't see it in my google maps.

I learned that you also need the Google Assistant app installed for this to work.

Fair dinkum. I may have had the payment part backwards, but I stand by what I said about Google being the best search engine. Many people in this thread were giving Tim heat for allowing it to be the default, which is moronic.

Yep, I can't believe someone thinks a company would pay billions to set a certain service as a default on it's own hardware!

Apple doesn't pay a dime. It is Google who pays billions to be a default search engine on almost billion iOS devices. Apple can choose whatever the f they want as a default on their own devices, they don't have to pay anyone. Google does profit more from iOS devices than Android devices, so you see they are not completely fool to pay Apple billions. Their search engine though is the best, so I wouldn't use any other anyway.

You have that backwards. Google pays Apple billions per year to be the default search engine on iOS.

But yeah, Google is a great search engine too.

Anyone have good use cases for this? I tried ‘hey google, please add a stop at a gas station along the way to my destination’ but that didn’t add a stop or even give me options in map (it just gave me a google assistant list of gas stations). Makes me wonder, can this integration do anything useful with maps or is it just a way to ask random assistant questions while using maps
