I set up a Siri shortcut for Google Assistant so that when I said “hey google”, it would launch Google Assistant and start listening.

I just tried it now and instead of launching Google Assistant, Siri says “you’ll need to continue in Assistant.” and displays an “Open Assistant” button. If I tap that I then have to unlock my phone and finally Google Assistant will launch and start listening to me.

To say that this is a severe downgrade to functionality is an understatement. I tried deleting the shortcut and recreating it and even uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Assistant app, but it still is behaving the same. It does the same thing on my iPhone and iPad.

I checked and Assistant has permission to use Siri.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any way to work around this?
