Google AI Plus includes 200 monthly AI credits for video generation

I just can't bring myself to generate an AI video. The amount of energy and water and communities being polluted just to make this slop makes me sick, and then what? I'm left with some crappy video that I don't even care about that's just going to sit on a drive somewhere or more likely be deleted? All of this energy just to be deleted at worst, or not cared much about at best. Maybe a small laugh. It just actually makes me want to throw up. But then again, a lot of things nowadays have me feeling that way.

I’m really hoping Apple doesn’t bundle this into Apple One then raise the price. I want to love it, but I don’t even like it.
yep. I am still waiting to see some "AI offering" that truly makes my life easier, saves me time and such. chatbot search doesn't, email summaries. writing suggestions etc don't cut it for me. I'm retired so show me something Apple!

There's a whole other facet of AI that emerged in 2025 that many consumers still aren't aware of — agentic + tool usage. In this mode, the AI can run autonomously and use tools (ie. "functions") to perform work, which is beyond the AI model itself just trying to generate language and media output that everyone is growing tired of.

Beyond that, there's embodiment, or physical AI — basically robots — and these will completely change the world in the next 5 years.

The West is wayyyyyy behind China in these areas. The US may think they are leading the tech revolution, but that's not the full story. Tech out of Asian markets is moving way faster.
so, as a consumer (and I'm retired), do you have examples of "agentic + tools" that might make my life easier?

robots are coming, will have to watch that space, if there's a robot that does the household chores (cleaning of all sorts, dishes, cat litter etc etc), in the future, at some reasonable price - I'd be interested, maybe ... not sure I'll be around to see that 😉

Anyone recommend a service that lets you choose where your chat goes, without a subscription to every AI service?

Sometimes I'd like to use the Pro Gemini, other times Claude w/ sub does a way better job. ChatGPT doesn't stand out to me right now, but sometimes being able to direct the prompt to a specific agent would be nice without having to maintain separate subs?

Apple's implementation of Gemini for Siri will be completely separate. Not running on Google's servers, but instead on Apple's servers, with Google having no access to user data. That is what is being reported.
Yeah, I’ve read that. But then a more recent article talked about the possibility of running on google servers. I guess we’ll see what they announce. My reluctance is mostly because of google. For me it’s along the lines of a cable company. I just don’t think much of them.

Pretty much a scam price set to increase their profit margins without providing much value to the average user.

Maybe we’ll get robots that can sit down in front of the keyboard and type what we say 🤭

You could consider Perplexity.

Their list of models you can access here: https://www.perplexity.ai/help-cent...ced-ai-models-are-included-in-my-subscription

So much for the ChatGPT first mover advantage.

I don’t think ChatGPT can compete with the big players and none are bigger than Google. Although they did beat Apple who seems to be floundering in the AI space.

Google can run AI Plus at a loss indefinitely while throwing hundreds of billions in it’s direction.

They are losing money on all of the paid plans, even Pro (for those who asked those questions). However, in a loss leader market recouping some is better than none.

Are they still losing money with these plans? What do people think they will need to charge to cover their expenses? I know the old -give it away cheap until people need it- but if it's never very affordable what is the point? I can make my own Power Points...
Google is doing this to try and kill OpenAI. It’s a war of attrition that Google knows they can win.

I had a muck around with this AI stuff months ago, but it offers me nothing more than a normal, search engine, so I certainly would not pay for it. I use search engines to get answers, and I don't use the A.i bits either.
Ai is disabled on my Andorid phone and on my mac

BS. If you believe that then you have ZERO clue about filmmaking. Absolute zero. Less than zero. Zero minus infinity.

Throwing some prompts doesn’t make you a filmmaker. End of story.
While your rant about AI is spot on I disagree that only shooting on film is film making. Plenty of animated movies are great peace of art. Check out Akira, Paprika or Persepolis.

If anyone from Google is reading this, here's the only way your AI will make money from me:

I'll pay a one off fee of $25 to never see another AI summary in search, $25 to never see another AI transcript or summary on YouTube, $25 permanently remove all AI features from Gmail, $50 for a working 'hide slop' button on YouTube and $100 for the ability to identify and automatically bounce AI generated email in Gmail.

On pace to use 180 billion gallons of water a year to run this trash. 280 billion gallons of water a year in 2028. Turn this timeline off please, all of it. Thanos snap would be fantastic; **** I would even jump in with Eleven to wherever the hell she went at this point.
Just for comparison, the annual amount of water used in the USA to support animal agriculture is estimated to be 30-70 TRILLION gallons of fresh water. 🧐
