I feel like in the world of ChatGPT, Reddit, and TikTok, google search has a limited number of days left

This assertion is hilarious because Google crippled its own search years ago in the search for ever more profits.

Google search was at one time the shining jewel of the relatively-young internet, finding you what you were actually looking for among an unfathomable sea of information.

Google search "results" are now a wall of ads (or shopping links with wildly inaccurate prices) virtually indistinguishable from actual results, followed by an endless string of links to AI-generated slop that varies from completely untrustworthy to utterly useless. And God forbid you're looking for a web page more than a few months old--despite nearly 30 years of history, anything not "refreshed" (with more AI slop) in the last few months might as well not exist, even if the information presented is precisely accurate.

The worst part is, it's entirely on purpose--Google's money-grubbers realized that if you gave people exactly what they were looking for on the first try, they wouldn't have nearly as many chances to see your sponsored links and maybe accidentally click on them. So they very intentionally made the results suck.

It's gotten so bad that I'm now seriously considering paying money for a search engine. Kagi doesn't even have to be the best search ever--just getting back to the nicely functional point Google search was at a decade ago is actually worth paying for now.

I’m totally fine with this. Can they bring Alphabet out into the light, as well? It’s very bizarre when a behemoth like Google is as big as they are…and they are actually owned by a different company that hides in the shadows. Public needs to know more about Alphabet.

I think Google is mostly upset about Chrome being sold off because that’s where they harvest a TON of data from users. Not to mention a huge amount of money made from ads. Their payday would come to a crashing halt, that’s for sure

... Antitrust Remedies Would Cripple Google Search Profits

Fixed that for ya. ;)
Exactly this. A good (business) reason for Google to be resistant, but I just love it when they try to spin it as a problem for consumers instead of the company. That's day 1 political ****.

Google search isn’t a search engine. It’s an ad platform masquerading as one. At least, now it is.

We get it. That’s how it’s paid for. But not every search is looking for a product. Many are looking for Information. Information that’s isn’t for sale, but offered for free.

AI is a threat to reality as it hallucinates. Maybe I should ask it for a link to a site with the information.

While I agree with the other concession demands, this one is BS. Does Coca-Cola have to share its formula for Coke with Pepsi? Does KFC have to share its secret 11 herbs and spices recipe with Popeye's or Church's? Google worked hard to perfect the search ranking*. It should benefit from it.

*I think the secret sauce is $$$. You buy the top 2-3 spots on the search listing.😆
Some of those here would think that

It makes no sense to have Google divest Chrome. If anything they should divest Android or their advertising business.

Profits are exactly Google does not want to see diminish. Duck Duck Go! is the way to fight them!
