I'm curious, what compels people to use Chrome over Safari on iOS?

I'll admit I do use Chrome on iPhone. I have no issues with Safari and do use it, sometimes I even forget which I am even in - but the primary reason is tab history and sync across devices. I have Windows devices I have to use too and it's much easier to have things flow around. Can't do that from Safari.

The long press didn't work for me on my iPhone 15 Pro Max on iOS 17.1. The only option that appeared was "Copy".

I was able to get it done by opening Chrome, going to Settings and selecting "Address Bar: Bottom". Hope this helps!

Same thing. No option in settings. Version 118.0.5993.92.

The fact that we use Chrome on our computers, which means Chrome iOS has all our bookmarks, history, open tabs, etc. (all optionally, of course), whereas Safari does not.

Seems it’s not available for everyone yet. I can do so with beta version of Chrome but still don’t have that option in the latest stable version.

Just remembering the uproar there was when Apple moved the iPhone Safari URL bar from the top to the bottom.
I don’t know what you’re remembering. Even if there was an “uproar” it was barely noticeable because you can choose where do you want address bar to be. It’s not set in stone. There is little to no uproar when things are left to the users to decide, uproar only happens when something is forced on people against their will

After all, it is more natural for it to be on the bottom since reaching for top of the screen is hard on these giant phones nowadays

When I'm on a smartphone I only do some minimal browsing, and Safari is perfectly adequate for that.

Reminds me of the old Samsung commercial making fun of the iPhone 5 I think it was.

“The headphone jack is on the bottom.” *makes mind blown gesture*

I actually had no idea that anyone but my parents (who couldn't figure out how to move it back) were using the URL bar at the bottom.

I'm still baffled that anyone would want it there. I'm going to have to try the suggested methods to get the Amazon app's search bar back to the top where it belongs. I'm kinda thrilled to learn there is actually a fix for that.

[get off my lawn.]
