I already moved what few Google Docs I had to Pages files on my iDisk. Still can't edit on my iPhone, but I was getting sick and tired of Google's clunky user interface.

Hoping that Pages will come to iOS some time soon...

iWorks.com has a beta program. Been using it for a couple months now. Pretty cool actually.

I just tried to edit a document on my iPhone 4 and I don't have any of the options seen in the video Google placed on Youtube.... Not even a keyboard.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I think macrumors interpreted google's announcement incorrectly. I don't see any mention of being able to edit on iOS devices. If I access the help for google docs on my device, it says "At this time, only viewing is possible" when trying to get info about editing.

Although, I can edit spreadsheets through their pseudo-form implementation, but that's nothing new.

edit: nevermind, it was me that misread the end of google's announcement: "In the next few days, we’re rolling this out to English-language users around the world on Android with Froyo (version 2.2) and on iOS devices (version 3.0+) including the iPad."

Same issue here?

I can't do it on my iPhone yet. It must not be rolled out to me yet. Looks interesting. I still do my doc editing with Docs2Go on both the iPhone and iPad. I guess for real quick edits this would do the job.

You can't create a new document on mobile google docs so this is quite useless actually.

Why is it useless and to whom? You? Yes, there are some missing features which I am sure will be implemented in time, but for quick edits on-the-go, I think this is a welcome addition. I'm looking forward to the day when I will be able to edit presentations.

yay! Good start ... I checked it out my phone - it only edits (no sytle changes etc) right now. Hopefully we'll see more features added on soon.

http://docs.google.com is still the same old (broken) Google docs on my iPad.

http://mobile.google.com/docs is just the video and list of features.

Is anyone actually using this yet? I'm guessing they are rolling it out account by account.

I see a few people on here who are asking if it's working yet on the iPhone. The answer is yes, but not on old documents. I just found this out yesterday. So any existing documents you have, you will need to create a new one, and cut and paste it over. I noticed this because if you go to the main Google Docs site from your iPhone, you will see a little pencil icon, which will let you create a new document.

When you copy it over to a new document, you'll notice the line spacing is a little bigger. Just hit Ctrl-A or Cmnd-A to select all, and the use the line spacing tool to change it from the 1.5 default to 1 if you want. Even with that, when you view your new document from the iPhone, you will notice the line spacing is even bigger. Not sure why. But if you click the Edit button at the top right, it will put you into Edit mode. From there, I just created a home page icon so that I could access my document directly, and it would take me to the Edit Mode version of the document, where the line spacing is fine (still a little bigger than old Google Docs) and I am just a tap away from editing my document.

Yes you can only do simple edits, but for most of the users, I'd say that's a major breakthrough, although it seemed like something that should have been available from day 1, given you can do it on the spreadsheets. So all in all, I'm pretty happy with the change. Makes my To Do List and Shopping list much more managable with on-the-fly edits!
