Google Expands AirDrop Support to More Android Phones

Google today said its Quick Share feature that allows Android and iPhone users to exchange files with AirDrop is expanding to more devices.

Quick Share is now available on the following Android smartphones.

Quick Share is the Android equivalent of AirDrop, and Google added AirDrop integration in November 2025. iPhone users can AirDrop files and photos to Quick Share-enabled Android devices, while Android users can use Quick Share to send files and photos to iPhone users.

On an Android device, users need to make sure the Share with Apple devices setting is turned on and that the iPhone user sets AirDrop visibility to "Everyone for 10 minutes" through the Control Center. From there, an Android to iPhone file transfer is identical to a standard AirDrop transfer on the iPhone end.

On an iPhone, sharing a file to an Android smartphone is done through the standard AirDrop interface. Android owners receiving files will need to make sure Quick Share Receive mode is on, and then an iPhone user sending a file will see the Android device in the AirDrop list.

Android devices that are not compatible with Quick Share can generate a QR code that can be used to share content with iPhone users via the cloud.

Though Google positions the Quick Share to AirDrop file transfer feature as an Android/iPhone option, Android users can also exchange files with iPads and Macs.

Google plans to bring Quick Share to the Motorola Razr Fold 2026, OPPO Find X8 series, and HONOR Magic8 Pro in the coming months.

Please no, I don't want another iOS 16.1.1 [China] and iOS 16.2 [rest of the world] situation where Everyone for 10 minutes was introduced. And since then, the original option was not brought back nor an option to choose how many minutes other than 10 for the time limit.

I was thinking of buying the Samsung S23 Ultra but it is not yet supporting AirDrop so 3rd party solution for the time being.

They should support their last five device releases if they want to be like Apple.

Probably didn’t implement 10 minute airdrop when turning it on for all contacts, it’s gonna be a mess. 😛

I rarely use airdrop too many button presses which feels the same as iMessage lol it’s never quick sometimes even the supposedly fast phone to phone tap decides to send contacts and not the photo or file I’m trying to send

The funny thing is that Samsung gets a lot of features before even Pixel. They often introduce new Google features at the Samsung event as well
 
This is still a problem Android devices. Will my Samsung TAB S10 FE+ currently on Android 16 get Android 17 in a few months? It is supported for a while, but who knows if and when it will get Android 17. Worse it is probably up to Samsung....who will want you to upgrade the tablet to get the newest Android.

Google with Pixel is no better. New features roll out for the monthly updates and for a time they only come to the latest version, in this case the Pixel 10. Later they do come to the 9 and maybe 8....later the 7 (if you are lucky).

With iOS your phone is either supported or not and if supported, you get it the day everyone else can get it.

I don’t think they won’t do anything especially since they are in partnership with Google regarding Gemini as a base for Apple Intelligence

Also the 8a being supported but not its expensive non pro version or the pro version of the 8 lmao

Years ago, I got myself the Sony Xperia 1 III. Sure it's not a volume seller nor long software update cycle anywhere in the world, I just love a Sony device. 😀
