Who Owns Opera Browser? Understanding the Ownership Structure The ownership of the Opera browser is complex and has evolved over time, but it’s currently wholly owned by Golden Brick Capital Private Equity Fund I Limited, a Chinese investment fund. This structure, while technically accurate...
Didn't take long for this to come up as usual. Almost like people follow any post about Opera and insert CHINESE in the conversation to try to destroy their reputation. This has been discussed by Opera directly, so make the decision for yourself and not based on the usual scare tactics: https://blogs.opera.com/security/2023/07/debunking-spyware-misinformation/
I dont think so. Opera is still headquartered in Oslo, Norway, and it’s a publicly traded company on NASDAQ, they're usually obligated to follow the laws from the country where their HQ is at.
China can’t just boss the company around like a private toy. Norwegian and EU laws stay in charge—no shareholder gets to override them and force Opera to follow Chinese rules or anything else that breaks those laws.
Yes, Opera is majority-controlled by Kunlun Tech, but the remaining shares are largely held by non-Chinese investors, primarily US and UK institutional funds and a small group of mostly Norwegian/US-based insiders.
So, if I would buy today 50% of shares, it does not give me the right to transfer any data to nirvana or farvana.
Ai is in many companies future you can bet on that. What i find fascinating is people think the word Ai is like one organism like a fly on the wall you can get rid of. Ai is going to be in many things and stopping this train is not going to happen. Besides all these years your internet service provider has nice records of your internet travels. Oh and do you really trust your VPN not selling you out for millions either?
Good on Opera! Be first because AI is not stopping for anyone. Rules will change about usage maybe but thats about it.
