So what about privacy? I trust Apple to safeguard privacy (well as much as I trust any company) but I don't with Google. Are they going to be collecting the data that is shared with Siri? Is this the model being hosted by Apple or will it be run on Google servers?
It’s going to be Apple’s own custom version of Google’s LLM on private servers— Google doesn’t get any of the info supposedly.

I'm so happy to live in a world where I can get "emotional support" from Apple and Google 🤗.
I love you so much, Apple and Google !
How much ? $9.99 a month ? Depression Plus Pro for $14.99 ? Hanging Detection in Apple Watch ?
2026 is so amazing, already !
I’ve said for years “Idiocracy” is turning out to be a documentary after all, but “Demolition Man”?

Apple and Google this week announced that Gemini will help power a more personalized Siri, and The Information has provided more details.

As soon as this spring, the report said the revamped version of Siri will be able to…

  • Answer more factual/world knowledge questions in a conversational manner
  • Tell more stories
  • Provide emotional support
  • Assist with more tasks, such as booking travel
  • Create a document in the Notes app with information, such as a cooking recipe
The report said Apple plans to announce additional Siri capabilities at WWDC in June, including…
  • Knowledge of past conversations
  • Proactive suggestions based on information from apps, such as Calendar
Apple already announced that the personalized Siri would have better understanding of a user's personal context, on-screen awareness, and deeper per-app controls, so a lot of the specific capabilities that the report said are coming would align with that.

For example, Apple showed an iPhone user asking Siri about their mother's flight and lunch reservation plans based on info from the Mail and Messages apps.

The report said that the latest prototype of the more personalized Siri does not have any Google or Gemini branding, and Apple will be able to fine-tune Gemini's model to ensure that Siri responds to queries in a way that the iPhone maker prefers.

More details are available in The Information's paywalled report.

Apple first previewed the more personalized Siri at WWDC 2024, and the revamped assistant is finally expected to launch as part of iOS 26.4 in March or April. However, according to the report, some capabilities will not arrive until iOS 27.

Yeah ….. I think I’m good.

Yeahhhh . . . I think I’m good.
I don’t need Ai on my iPhone at this point. I’m using ChatGPT separately. I’m just heavily disappointed in Siri in general and its ability to answer SIMPLE questions or do simple tasks like turning lights off. I can’t even say - turn off light A, and turn off light B. I have to make 2 different requests. 😑

It's better to get up and turn the lights off. A bit of exercise would do you wonders! :)

Returning to information in conservations is a huge deal, as no AI has long term memory of - anything. Apple isn't behind, it's pushing to actually make AI useable for something other than building more dumb apps and needed websites.

How can you not be disappointed with Chat GPT which in my experience is wrong more than it's right, and it never says "I don't know". It literally makes things up. It's near useless for real life tasks. Building unneeded corporate drivel - very good at. Which lets you know exactly how useless 90% of corporate communications are.

Just increase the understanding of basic English. I should not have to talk like a robot to make the robot understand me.

Can you start a 30 minute timer and let me know when there are five minutes remaining?
  • Gemini: Starts a 30 minute timer and says it will remind me when there are 5 minutes left. But I never get the reminder.
  • Siri: Starts a 35 minute timer. No reminder.
Both of those results are bad. Adding some Gemini smarts isn’t going to get it there on it’s own.

Wait Apple sold out for "provide emotional support" lol. I thought we would get AI image editing or something useful. That list is garbage.

Every story I see about this makes me sick. I avoid google. Now apple got so lost in the AI stuff they need to bring google on board to save them. That being said....better this than they just die in the AI world.

Almost none of them say I don't know because when training them users downgraded the LLM when it said it didn't know. That's also why they are all sycophants as well...users rated that much higher.

Can this carryover to CarPlay?

For years I could ask for sports scores and also ask “who scored” in a live game.

Now for the past few years Siri just says “I can show you when you’re no longer driving.”

Now I’ll get “I know you’re upset your team is losing; perhaps a subscription to AppleTV to watch a funny movie will help.”

They won’t die, they’ll just continue to make the most attractive hardware for people to interface with whatever AI. Apple is still a hardware company at it’s core, despite the push towards services lately (which are also unaffected by AI for the most part)

If Gemini or any other AI is the future, I’d still rather run it on an iPhone/macbook, using Apple’s servers, than on any Android or Windows device using Google’s

My memory is most deficient, but it seems to me that Siri used to be able to add to existing notes. Didn’t that used to be the case? I see that one of the new areas of work that new Siri is supposed to be able to manage is notes. I hope she can do that again because that was helpful to me more than once when my hands were full. I am grateful that she is currently able to take a note, but I would like for her to be able to add to an existing note again also. Or did I dream that?

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.

I’ll believe it when I start seeing it in developer betas. Until then I don’t care, and once I start seeing these things appear, I’ll believe they are real only when they work as advertised and are delivered in a non-beta version.

I hope Apple is more focused on delivering what they’ve already promised, and failed to deliver, than anything else they claim is coming.

Get your house in order before making more promises, or go get bent.

Well said!

Many of us where willing to overlook some of Apples broken promises, excessive hype etc.

But when they loudly promoted iPhone 16 built for Apple Intelligence but failed to deliver, that was inexcusable. Even for those of us that don’t care and don’t want it, they promised and failed, revealing volumes about their true character.

That is what I’m getting from this article. The very basic stuff we can already have Siri send to chat GPT will instead be sent to Gemini, and the cool features will be coming soon (likely just previewed at WWDC, launching in September or later). What a cluster, haha.
Back in the day, this was called “ vaporware”

I use Apple when I already know my way but need a reminder to pick up some milk before arriving at hone

I use google when I actually need reliable directions and traffic information, knowing I looked privacy a bit

I’m absolutely certain that AI shouldn’t pretend to “provide emotional support.” It’s software, not a human being. What a terrible idea.
What? Don't you trust Sirius Cybernetics to provide a proper Genuine People Personality?

Big Pharma will be offering Google billions to have the GPP recommend their finest anti-depressants by name. Product Placement Billions will flow!
