Bluetooth headsets never quite got social acceptance so I don't see how these will. Futuristic sci-fi stuff is great in the movies, but they never really work quite that well in real life.

The only issue I have is the most expensive piece of technology on your person is now going to be the easiest to steal.

I think it will be much harder to steal this than to steal my wallet. It will literally never leave your sight.

I just watched The Verge video.... wow. I want it.

I see people buying these and then wearing normal glasses later on, forgetting that they're normal glasses and then yelling "GOOGLE!!!!! TAKE A ********** PICTURE NOW!" in the middle of a crowded street. Now that would be something hilarious and awesome to post on youtube after it happens.

That's because people are self-concious. It's time to grow out of that stage.

Say what?

Not sure where you live - but people here in NYC and everywhere I've traveled have bluetooth headsets on. And it's a "norm"

I use siri in public with no shame. I really don't care. It's easier than doing some things manually. And as for bluetooth headsets, I still see them in use on a daily basis. It's not the users fault that other people are too stupid to realize they're not talking to themselves. Unless you live under a rock, you know what that person is actually doing.

Think whatever you want, at least google is innovating at the moment. Can't say the same about Apple.

You can't say that because Apple isn't in a habit of releasing $1300+ web broswer or glasses.

Yes, this is a very cool product, and it may pave the way for something great down the road, but at the moment Google doesn't seem to be aiming at regular consumers with either this or the Chromebook Pixel.

After the new wears off, this will sit on a shelf collecting dust at $1500. Note, we never get to see what a jerk people look like who wear one of these. I'm thinking Locutus may be an apt comparison.

Why would you be a jerk? would it offend people?

I will not take kindly to some jackass looking at me while they're wearing these.

They will be completely unsuitable for many uses, and likely ruled out for many more.

At least with a phone I can see people take them out and use them. With these, it's a whole different ballgame, one I'm not willing to play nice with.

are u actually hearing people use siri ... in public tho?

Personally - no not when out and about. But it's hard to hear people in NYC. I've heard people use it at people's homes/in cars. Mostly to frustration. Oh I am sure it's useful for many - just not what I've seen.

I don't think I've ever seen (or am aware) of someone using siri via bluetooth. Which is more akin to what using google glass would be as you wouldn't need to shout or even speak loudly like most do when they put their phone up to their face with Siri.

Glass, like Siri, to me - at this stage of technology is gimmicky. I'd rate glass on a much higher cool factor than Siri any day of the week though.

ETA: Of course - I can't wait for the tin foil hats to come out "I don't want google tracking my every location/eye movement/brain activity/everything I say/yadda yadda" and "Great - so I bet this thing will constantly serve up ads based on my queries, location, etc and I'll be spammed instead of seeing things I want to..."

Not sure if the idea of the distraction of these for drivers is the worst, or the privacy issue, or the weird borg look.

The real reason this was made is... Porn.

Some BT headsets are not noticeable. People prefer them small and out of sight.

I'm sure it is in NYC with all the business types there, but even then it's not the majority of people using them. I live in Portland - bluetooth headsets are a relatively rare sighting.

Google Glass not only has to overcome the social acceptance barrier with regards to style/fashion, it also has to overcome the creepiness factor. It would be hard to talk to someone wearing it knowing that they might be recording you and you wouldn't know.

Then factor in the price tag. I really have a hard time seeing this take off. Yes, there will be a few impulsive geeks who get it. Maybe extreme sports people who use it in place of a GoPro. But it's never going to be a ubiquitous product the way smartphones are. My opinion only.
