Yes I have read the article. I disagree with his points and moreover when within the first couple of paragraphs, to illustrate his opinion he utilised a graph from 2 years ago, I honestly think any points he makes after then have to be taken with a measure of cynicism and skepticism in equal measure.
The fact he goes on to declare the introduction of Apple Maps in IOS 8 as better than Google Maps after the disaster that was the release of apple maps is testament to how rose tinted his opinion is. He then pulls out the Steve Jobs couldn't save android nonsense.
His point re: Allo & Duo may indeed be inspired by iMessage / FaceTime - but only in the same way that iMessage and FaceTime were progression of existing technology/services that Apple took and tailored it to its platform. Apple refined them for its product and Google is essentially doing the same but has to bridge more OEM's and in the process is embedding googles search and services directly into the messaging / video systems so that they are tailored and refined for its platform. If they are not innovative for doing this, then the same argument can be made for FaceTime and iMessage if you consider them innovative.
He seems to continuously argue that Google lack innovation because they are not a hardware business, which entirely misses the point that Google are a services company and Android is a platform for delivering those services.
Furthermore the language he uses in his article are tabloid esque gutter trash. Describing Google Home for example as
"Google Home, the surveillance search bar for your home" is clearly setting the tone of paranoia.
so you argumentatively disagreed with 1% of the article while disregarding everything else based on the source. ill mention him again, donald trump
you disagree that sundar was brought to supervise teenagers running google throwing ideas around with less than one in 10 of those gained any traction and that he failed in doing so? given the trajectory google is on these past few years.
you disagree that google track record of successful ideas is anything less than embarressing?
you disagree that google failed to increase new android version penetration? the penetration is actually slowing down?
regarding the
obsolete graph you strongly brought up, look at the most up to date graphs and you'll see why there wasnt a point in using the newer one. should i post it?
you disagree that the latest samsung q1 earnings are barely two thirds of those in 2013 at its peak?
do you disagree that google's and samsung interests dont converge because the google is about reaching the next billion people by selling sub 100$ phones while samsung hopes for the opposite?
you disagree that that kind of interest clash renders google unfocused on the most lucrative segment of the market (abandoning android silver)?
you disagree that android is objectively in the same situation as symbian in 2008 with a bunch of oems scraping for profits and leading the platform everywhere but nowhere?
you disagree that this years and last years google io were full of too far fetched or plain dumb ideas, like project ara? in context of the past google initiatives
you disagree that android daydream is a failure from the start given the most important players have their own proprietary solutions and given googles past failure to control or directs oems in any meaningful way? why would they suddenly listen to a search company with as much failures as google - google tv, android tv, tablets, silver, google one?
you agree that nobody wants to pay for 650$ phones while google is suddenly trying the exact opposite with VR?
you disagree that apple is so dominant in smartwatches that IDC put 25 bucks bands (vs 300$) so apple could appear to have some competition? you disagree that android wear is a failure from the numbers sold aspect? what marketshare does android wear have? how about tizen? where does apple stand in 300+ bucks market?
you agree that a bunch of companies barely making money on smartphones and not making any on smartwatches are going tho outperform apple in the high end, especially considering googles ADHD and chronic lack of focus?
you disagree that google suffers from adhd? you disagree that google of the past has thrown around a bunch of ideas with barely any of them failed to materialize? should we count them?
you disagree that android security capability and record are embarrassing and has a very unattractive user demographic from a financial aspect?
you disagree that google is facing litigation from oracle because of the stolen api implementations?
you disagree that google would be very happy if chromeOS somehow replaced android mess but its not taking off except in poor k-12 schools saving every nickel?
you disagree with all those reviews of pixel C lacking tablet features, eg. actual tablet apps? and those apps are now gonna run on big screens?
you agree that suddenly, after all those years of android tablets and bad performance from chromeOS, developers will concentrate on tablet/large screen apps?
you disagree that running android apps on blackberry didnt brought any kind of betterment for the android platform? why did microsoft gave up on running android apps? i now chrome anroid apps are gonna bring high quality android tablet apps?
you disagree that chromeos is a bad performer?
you disagree that google utterly failed to make money on any kind of hardware?
you disagree that duo and allo are completely unnecessary in this crowded market and that they'll probably fail as the most other google initiatives? should we count them?
you disagree that google is slowly creeping towards apple ideology and solutions while apple stays at its current trajectory?
you disagree that the whisper and shout is an idiot feature people earning millions should be ashamed of?
what about point of DED that using machine learning to speak with other people makes us less intimate?
you disagree that if any company is accused of spying on its users, first on the line are google and facebook? their future depends on it.
project ara: DED makes a good point. so its upgradable, means you can keep it longer. now imagine a phone 3 years old with a couple parts upgraded? is that ina ny way a good idea?
you disagree that existing project ara modules are all pretty useless? should i post some examples
you disagree with DED observation that google IO looks like, behaves and aspires to Burning man? both literally and figuratively
you disagree with alot.
does anyone here watch silicon valley?
