Just bought Thermo Watch. Nice app. I hope the developer can keep it going.

My two dual-fuel heatpumps were not at all easy to set up on the Nests. I suspect switching to different thermostats would also be a pain unless I can determine what the HVAC guy did to the Nest connections to make them work?

Thermo Watch developer here - I should point out that this is actually good news for existing users (or anyone who starts using the app before August 31) Because it means that for those users at least, the app will keep working fine. I don't plan on abandoning the app even after that day. It will still be getting updates for existing users, and will soon also have Homekit thermostat support, in particular so that it can display homekit thermostat temperatures on the watch face complications.
I also still have plans to update the app in any way possible so it keeps working even for new Nest users after that date.

As the developer are you working with google to switch from Works with Nest to Works with Assistant?

I was an early Nest adopter. Thought it was great. Loved how they had an iPad app Day 1 of iPad release. Bought smoke detectors, and was impressed with the auto-away functionality. Then Google bought them. Everyone said, "Google. Run for the hills."

The auto-away doesn’t even work properly anymore if you don’t use iPhone location.

Oh man... I didn't know Goog said goodbye to nest on Apple Watch!! 😟
They said goodbye to quality customer service too when they took over NEST’s operations. I recently had to wait 4 months on an RMA for my NEST outdoor cam.

Their customer service is a joke. I reached out time and time again only to be told “we’re on it”. After a couple of months of this I demanded someone give me an actual update and they blamed me for “not contacting them”!! They apologized after I told them to check the case history to which I had replied 5 times.

The first RMA order link didn’t work. The second RMA order link didn’t work and again, they blamed me: “must be your computer”. I said “all 4 of them?”

Eventually the RMA order was placed (third RMA link worked by some miracle), 2 weeks after the the delivery ETA had passed and it hadn’t even been dispatched, I contacted them again only to be directed to Google NEST chat to get help as it was “a different team who handles orders”. The first agent said “sorry, you need to speak to Google support (the guys who sent me to Google NEST support because they couldn’t help...). I was passed around I think 6 or 7 agents (not exaggerating), none of whom could help. Eventually the last one said it was out of stock and I’d get it “at some point.”

Eventually I got it and I try to set it up only to find I can’t move my NEST Aware plan to it from the old camera. Wonderful. So I ask Google NEST support if they can give me 4 months free because I couldn’t make use of the plan I paid for due to the camera being broken. They said “we can extend your free trial on the new camera by 1 month, please cancel your old subscription.” I cancel it and IT ALSO KILLS THE 2 MONTH FREE TRIAL. I get back in touch and ask them to reinstate it, to which they reply “we have re-enabled the 1 month trial but can’t enable the extra month again.”

I’m done with NEST, Google NEST or whatever the hell they want to call themselves these days. This was not one slip-up, it was a complete failure of every single cog in the machine.

Agreed. Our nest hello started to flake and chip by the button and google was like, “is it located outside?” Uh, yeah. Its a doorbell. “Sorry out of warranty.”

never again, google.

Yup, just like Apple’s “our devices are water resistant! Covered by warranty? 🤣🤣🤣”
