Please Google!? Can you track me PLEASE?!!!? No thank you. I don't need them to share literally where I had my breakfast or took a walk to try to help people sell me nonsense I don't want.
Well, it's either or, but not both.

Either they use the data they have of you to sell relevant ads and be the best at targeting (which STRONGLY goes against selling your data for a quick buck) OR they sell the data and stop their VERY elaborate advertisement business.

You may mock me for saying this, but I think that Google can be trusted with data IN GENERAL as much as most other companies that you entrust some of your data.

How much, under which conditions, etc... is all up to you.

They are not perfect either, so that is a consideration, something can always leak, but I think that Google is one of the most dedicated companies out there in terms of infrastructure security.

Now, whether you even want that data to leave your devices is in a whole other book of course, but don't just assume that they will hit you both ways intentionally - ads and passing out your data.

Who they WILL give data to is governments, but guess what, if you're worried about that - and there are good reasons to for anyone - your devices themselves are not bullet-proof either.

If anything, you'll not get more things you don't want, but more you actually might care about the more relevant ads get. Extending on that, it takes much less advertisements once everything is a lot more refined.

That's why they have a sustainable ad model where they allow you to skip ads, etc... they are aware that either something is relevant or it's just an nuisance.

They force-play some ads, but compared to free TV YouTube for example is in a whole other league.

If someone wants to know where you were at, they can, and will, find out.

Nice try at what by the way?

You're pinged all day and night by cell towers....
Nice try at making a compelling argument. o_O

You're generally fooling yourself if you think Apple and Google don't have the ability to track you for advertising and demographic purposes to sell to stuff. It's just displaying it to you on the screen rather than only keeping in in the data farm.
Find my IPhone has saved our family hundreds of dollars after a couple instances of lost and stolen phones over the past 7 years. Applying a layer of where you stopped and how long you were there and when you left is a pretty basic extension of that to be added on to that location data.

Apple actually goes to great lengths to obfuscate trip data. Your trip is broken up into three parts and sent anonymously so it's impossible to put the pieces back together and figure out where you originated from. As for Find My iPhone, that location data isn't sent until you request it and there is a specific setting you turn on to store the last location of a device before it powers off. Completely optional.

Facts are facts.

And how do you think the "Facebook Murderer" was tracked to the area that they intensified the search in? Google maps?

No.

Simple cell phone pinging.
You are completely off topic here. We are talking about Google uploading and storing info about where you have been and where you are currently. This is completely different from specifically targeting one person of interest and initiating surveillance at that moment. That I have no problem with whatsoever. Keep trying though bud.

Then. Don't. Use. Google. Maps.

End of story.
