I get it, but if Apple mislabels the speed limit at 90 km/h in a 110 km/h road portion (say, they set it during the road works), then getting a repeated average speed reading of 105-115 km/h from all the cars going through that road portion might allow Apple to gauge the real speed limit and automatically correct it at their end. No need to drive all the Apple cars up and down the country every week then. Magic!

Very true and one way to improve maps; several areas I drive regularly show the wrong speed limit - higher or lower.

Although one place I live even if construction zones are present the average speed is usually much higher since the drivers view speed limits as advisory.

Great, now it can become just as worthless as regular Google search is becoming. (Which has been going down the drain for months now…) Never thought I’d see the day that Apple Maps had an actual chance.

Hate to say it, but Apple needs to get LookAround deployed nationwide in the US pronto. I've assumed that the holdup has been something related to the VisionPro, but that excuse is getting stale.

The way it works is that it will detect if the average speed in section of a road suddenly becomes slower or faster than expected and Google will use that information to double check with municipalities and street view imagery to update the speed limit if needed.
What is the delay of this feedback loop?

Street views are not updated very often, and municipalities are not exactly known for their quick response. Also, there is no guarantee the municipalities would be aware of all temporary speed limits due to constructions.

At least some European countries have a national database of all traffic signs. It does not seem to have a lot of impact on the speed limits hallucinated by Google Maps, other navigation software, or my car’s idea of speed limits in force.

Also, there are variable speed limits depending on weather and traffic (and possibly on the mood of an operator in local DoT’s operations center).

If there was a way to know the speed limit with certainty (= not being fined for driving at that known speed), it would be hugely useful. For navigation purposes, the actual speed of the traffic flow is much more important than the numbers printed on a sign.

If it's only available in the US, then not interested. US cities are filled with nothing but boring glass and steel buildings with no character.

I would be most interested if it featured some of the major European cities. I would go on virtual tours every weekend.😊 European buildings were built when humanity still had a sense of style and artistry.

I’m all in with Apple, but the amount of data that Google has on maps with reviews of places, etc…. Is handy. I find myself using it more and more.

It’s not my default. Wish Apple would copy that aspect and ditch Yelp.

How is it Yelp! is still a thing on Apple Maps, or even in general? Are they really, somehow, forcing Apple to include them?

Wonder if it is because iOS is a closed system and that is the only thing they can work with...

I wish they would just go ahead and assimilate Waze so I can switch over. Waze keeps going downhill every year as Google just sits on them.

Waiting to see the Google MapBot drones flying around, feeding data back to Maps HQ 24/7. No need to pay humans for that and can cover far greater territory.

In reality Apple maps could quite easily beat google maps (already does for navigation cues and interface visualisation and all) but alas it seems they'd rather trip over their own feet rather than progress since three scenarios:

1. reported a shop out of place... got rejected along the lines "no you're incorrect".. submit again... this time they agreed and moved it.. (it was marked like 500meters down the road or something?)

2. Petrol station was also incorrectly marked on the map.... long story short after 3 attemps of having it moved to the correct spot.. Maps team decided the station doesn't exist anymore.. and deleted it.. maybe just for me cause they got tired of me reporting it's incorrect spot?

3. Tried to add a shop to maps.. they again rejected it saying that it's not there... even thou they could pull up google maps and see that the shop indeed exists..

All three just show they have ways to go in order to not be hostile to users trying to improve their POI data... which is a shame...

Another issue with the maps is that for some reason it will show the correct location of a place on a map but once you hit "Go" on the navigation.. it will bump the spot a couple hundred meters in random direction (not always) and if you don't notice it .. you can drive to the wrong spot and then it's super awkward sometimes because the place could be in an estate and you end up somewhere randomly next to it and takes like 5/10mins to drive around through the estate entrance... Happens to my work place... if you search for it it gives the correct location but ever since setting it as "work" the pin is like 50meters off.. and then once you hit navigate it moves it even more.... The sad part about all this is that if you just drop a pin where the location is shown it perfectly drives to THAT spot.. AKA... it shows the pins for these places in correct spot but their own navigation software can't see it in that spot...

Other than that if you just drop pins and use it that way i find it way more enjoyable than google maps... saying that I have to turn at lights/etc is way more useful than googles "in 100meters turn..."

You want to switch to Waze, or you're stuck with Waze? Why and why?

I'm stuck with Waze, I really love the crowdsourcing and even though Google has picked up some of it, Waze is still king there. But otherwise Waze has really been going downhill with routing in general, bugs, features, etc.

The process doesn’t seem very useful because of that delay and what you are describing would be a lot more convenient. That said, Google probably had those checks in place to minimize the liability in case their AI generated information is wrong and the driver is cited for speeding.

They do all this before live activities??

Man I’m not the biggest fan of the DMA act but the fact only Apple Maps can use Dynamic Island and Lock Screen for navigation is messed up and a lock in.

Edit: I’ll also never use Apple Maps. Google maps actually has some of the best UI around and discovery.

I already have an amazing multidimensional experience…

Going outside and going for a walk, run or a drive etc

It’s amazing, you wouldn’t believe the resolution, physics and NPC’s… something super powerful must be running this!

I mean the damage models are amazing… even law enforcement are super realistic!
I agree the actual experience of going outside is unparalleled.

But what would you do if you have to go to a place that you don't know the location of? I would add that even while using navigation software, you still have to actually go outside in order to get where the navigation software is guiding you to.

while AI and historical driving trends simulate how many cars might be on the road at a given time.
This used to be called historical data and statistics, nowadays it’s AI

Complete madness, word AI has lost all meaning and I have no idea what someone is actually talking about when they say that something is using “AI”

Update seems to be good. Waiting for it to be rolled out to other cities and countries.

I’ve always preferred google maps. it’s set as my default/main go to on my iPhone! it’s frequently updated, pretty accurate with a wealthy on information and it just works for me.

Looking forward to this update!

I wish Apple had a way like Google of going “full screen” hiding search bar and all UI buttons.

Why Google or Spotify can release nice features constantly but we have to 1 full year to have anything significant change?.
Even Apple Music does not have “favorites” until the upcoming full IOS release!, why not just push and “app update” as in happens with any app from the App Store???
Because every iOS update would sound boring with just a few updates.

I’d like to see an update where I can filter out the businesses on the map so I can actually read the street names!!
