    So I love the iPhone.

However I am having a problem with google maps.

Lets say I do a search. The first satellite image will pop up. Then I zoom in, and that same picture is now repeated 16 times and fills up the map. Its tough to explain, but it appears this happens EVERY time I search. I've tried resetting the phone, but that doesnt help. Is there a way to clear the cache?

    Should I reformat my iPhone?

So you get a tile effect?

I want to add, that in many areas you cant zoom in very far. There is no detailed satellite info, yet. Major towns, zoom all the way in. In my area, cant zoom too far. If this happens, you should get "no image file" tiled across the screen.

I wonder if that is what you are getting, but instead one of the tiles is loading. Odd.

    nope.

Once the image affect happens, I can actually zoom out, and its the same tile effect. It looks really jacked up

Note that this happen on both satellite view as well as map view, and even results in map tiles and satellite tiles being on the same screen all jacked up if you switch from one to the other

Could it be some weird cache issue on your home wireless? Have you tried both on wifi and on edge?

P.S. Does your camera have a macro mode setting? The last few pictures are really out of focus, like you got too close.

ou can clear the cache but only thru safari. If that does nothing then you can restore the phone thru iTunes

    **issue Resolved**

    hi all!

I've been sweating over this all day! Really a quite devastating glitch... which totally ruined my day trip to Oakley, CA today. (good thing i have an amazing sense of direction =D)

It's probably too late for the original guy who brought up this problem, but I have discovered a fix, but this will only work for those iPhone users, like me, who have enabled SSH (i am sure most of you do, but if you don't know what SSH is, sorry to say this fix is not for you)

Its actually quite simple if you have SSH enabled and are familiar with it:
    1. Open SSH connection with iPhone.
    2. Navigate to "private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/MapTiles
    3. (backup) and DELETE "MapTiles.sqlitedb"
    4. That's It! Open up Mas.app on your phone and enjoy!

I actually figured this out myself. I know, i'm surprised too! I'm sure someone more familiar with the iPhone file structure could have done this a lot faster, but they didn't, so i literally looked into every folder for the maps cache file! wheew. at least i dont have to do a system restore, and i'm sure this kind of cache clearing is good for the software (hmm, i smell an actual feature... Apple :apple:!)

    Hope this helps,

    -Shamar

    Thank You!

I had to log in to post a reply.

The renaming of the file (adding .bak to the end) and a respring and relaunch of the app did the trick. Thanks for finding that and sharing. I can confirm that it removes the tiling problem.

If it happens again, I'm curious to see if the entire operation could be done through mobile finder from cydia.

Thanks again for the info, I was almost to the end of my rope and planning on a restore.
