It looks like Google Maps has removed their app from the Apple watch!??!

I noticed the other day, my app on my iPhone 7 had been updated (there was a blue dot next to it on my phone) but the same app, had now vanished from my watch?! o_O

Anyone else notice and what are you going to use instead now?!?

Still got mine :)

Still got mine :)

....you obviously have not updated your Google Maps to the latest version on your phone (V 4.30.0) as this seems to have removed the Apple watch functionality (searching for Google Maps within the app section of the Watch App on the iPhone, no longer shows any results).

Update your app, and you'll see Google Maps app for your watch, disappear....

I am also missing the Google Maps App since the latest update. I notice the App also no longer mentions Apple Watch. I wonder why this is and if it is only temporary?

Same thing happened to eBay a few weeks back. Kind of concerning that developers are silently pulling their apps from the Apple Watch like this.

it was useless anyway. the apple maps integration ican't be matched. (walking directions are the only time i use apple maps)

I only used google once because it has Nike routes here in Copenhagen and Apple doesn't

Kind of weird development this

Yes, Google Maps is gone from the watch. I thought it was a very poor implementation of Google Maps to begin with. It didn't refresh nearly as often as Apple Maps did, and the haptic feedback of Apple Maps on the watch is a killer feature that was hard to go without when using Google Maps. Hopefully they will go back to the drawing board and release a newer version.

Google, eBay and Amazon all have removed their apps from the watch.

most of those apps were useless. slow and inferior to their phone counterparts.

when the AW first launched, the apps were a shot in the dark. most of top 50 apps felt like they had to have an AW version, just to prove they were capable of it. (HEY FACEBOOK WHERE'S YOUR APPLE WATCH APP?)

but now, almost two years into the AW era, the pendulum has swung the other direction. outside of fitness and PIM apps (calendars, weather, etc), there's very little advantage of an AW app vs the iPhone version. and im ok with that.

I wouldn't say I'm 'missing' it, Bob.

This is not cool. Apple maps still takes me to the wrong places and doesn't find locations by keywords very often.

A lot of high profile services are pulling their Apple Watch apps. I wonder what this means long term.

Not really and issue as I do not use Google Maps much anymore, Apple's solution is pretty good now, we have this argument in my household often with my better half, LOL. We went to dinner in Palm Beach the other day. I had on Apple Maps, better half had on Google Maps. Google maps got it wrong as the restaurant was on Worth Ave. That section is one way and Google Maps told you to turn the wrong way on a one way street. Apple maps routed the right way! Kind of funny as this is one of the most famous streets in the U.S. and Google maps got it wrong! The other apps will send notifications via the phone anyway. Less overhead for the watch to run. Being the watch app thing is newer the companies may just be doing this for financial reasons. If they can support the watch with notifications from the iPhone, why would you put resources into a separate app?

Amazon and eBay have (or had?) AW apps? Why? What good are they? Was I supposed to shop for [hopefully not counterfeit] jewelry via my AW?

The apps that made sense as smartwatch apps are still around.
