Google Maps in Safari Very Choppy

Has anyone else noticed this when panning on a map within Safari on a rMB? It stutters and skips around.

It seems it works okay in Chrome and Firefox... Hmmm...

WebGL uses the GPU, which is pretty weak in the macbook.

Performance for Google Maps was not much better on my rMBP 13 in Safari. The solution for me was to use Chrome.

Are there consequences for turning off WebGL? E.g. decreased battery life, worse performance in other websites, etc? Why was it even on in the first place?

To eliminate having to change the WebGL setting just found this:

Can run google maps in a mode that now runs very fast for me, and seems to have all normal functionality.

WebGL brings 3D graphics to the web. It's not widely adopted quite yet (browser support is limited) so it's safe to say you will not miss much. You can always enable it.

I think disabling WebGL basically forces lite mode.

not to beat this issue but the GPU is way overkill for something like maps.

I had this problem when I first got the Macbook, but somehow it resolved itself shortly thereafter and I don't think I've ever made any settings changes... Works nice and smooth now.

Hmmm, panning in Google Maps in Safari on my rMB is fine.
