I also find Google Maps as an application to be very good overall.

However, their MAPS suck ever since switching to TeleNav as their map provider (for both the mobile & non-mobile sites). Up until last fall, they used NavTeq for their maps which is what Garmin and Mapquest use and which I find FAR more accurate than TeleNav (TomTom). For example, my 4 year old street disappeared from Google Maps once they made the switch and now when I give people my address I have to tell them to make sure they use MapQuest instead when looking up directions :(

I uses google maps to help me scope out a Radio Shack today to get my self an Innocase. No problems- especially now with the compass everything is great. Also make sure you download Around Me! Great help!

google maps on my 3g is even more quick with 3.0.. it's always works great for me.

Google maps sucks. I typed in "hamburger" because I knew there was a Wendy's down the street, and it gave me some far off wacko butcher shop in the next state over.

Sounds like a user problem. Google Maps is amazing, i've used it countless times.

:confused:You should've searched for "wendy's" or "fast food".

Maybe since you were right there it expected you would be looking for a different Main street, assuming that someone using the iPhone wouldn't be enough of a tard to look for a street right in front of them. Ever think of that, smart guy?
:p

i believe he was being facetious..

Works good for me. As long as my wife is there navigating, I see no real reason to look into any of the navigation apps. The Maps app does everything I need.

It works fine for me, it produces the results I want, gives me accurate directions, best of all - directions before driving

I love using Google Maps on my iPhone. It's one of the coolest features IMO. The only thing *bad* I could think of would be that it shows buildings that have been torn down and other locations that now have buildings. That's not the iPhone's fault though, Google Maps is just not up-to-date for some places.

The U.S. military limits civilian GPS to 3 meter accuracy (it used to be 20 meters). Military GPS can be A LOT more accurate.

My wife's 3G GPS works really well. Always nails us dead on and it's very quick to find us.

Is that still true? I know it was a few years ago but I am pretty sure they lifted that. But, I could be wrong

I love google maps on the iPhone. I am on the road looking for places all the time and it is better than asking the fire department.

You really need to brush up on your GPS information. Selective availability was turned off in 1998. Multi-frequency GPS receivers are available to non-military users (albeit quite expensive) which have resolution from 1 centimeter to 1 millimeter. Automotive and handheld GPS receivers can't be that expensive or that large so the tradeoff is accuracy but 10 feet is plenty accurate for vehicle and hiking use. You're not using it to do surveying.
