On my desktop with Google, Directions, they offer 3 different routes, and I can look and see what will happen with all three. With my iphone, I don't see any offerings except the default one they spoon feed you. Am I missing it? Thanks

Thanks G, what I mean is on desktop, it offers other route options. Also you click details and it has 10 steps you can see what the streets are, everything is listed in text. Does it do this on iphone?

Yes, that is it, and the Desktop offers several alternate routes to view. Where is this text on the iphone listed? and where are the alternate routes listed? Can't find them.

Oh yeah it's listed on the iPhone . When you select different route, then it will show the text of that route and you need to select the desired route first on maps before viewing text of the desired route .

Thanks G, but so far you have not helped at all or answered any of my questions, Is there a moderator here? Help me! Thanks

..."When you select different route, then it..."

    But I've mentioned I don't see other routes, that's why I posted!

So...100% of the time...you're only getting one route?

Maybe you could check in your "Route Options".
That's where you can choose to avoid tolls, or highways, etc.
    Have you changed those settings?

    Thanks Delta:
Highways, Tolls, Ferries, don't see any alternate routes there like I find on desktop Google Maps...? Do you?

    Yes...
I do see that some routes have no suggested alternates. Others have quite a few.
You can also avoid highways, or avoid tolls, and those settings will show changes in the routing, and probably suggest alternates. I think it depends on the route itself. I do know that Google Maps will suggest alternates _while you are traveling_ as I see those suggested when I am using map directions. Maybe I am more open to on-the-fly route modifications than you might accept :D

Are you saying that you NEVER see any alternates on ANY routing?

Thanks Delta, I'm new to smartphones, but I've discovered where alternate routes are, is that where they are, next to Tolls etc?

The desktop, Bam right from get go shows you many routes and the text of what street your'll take. It's nice to view all that before deciding!

The alternate routes show up on the map, depending on your origin and the destination. It's not a setting, as such.

If I look up routes to the north of my location, few alternates appear, and are mostly short. If I look up routes to the south, most routes show multiple alternates, with some major variations in the routing.
    All on my iPhone.

Likely has something in common with the main distinction between the iOS device, and the desktop system - turn-by-turn directions. The desktop version doesn't do turn-by-turn.

You still haven't answered the primary question.
Does your iPhone show alternates on ANY routes?
I think you will see that the alternate routes will vary, depending on the route itself. The desktop routes will appear differently, because of the difference in the capabilities and features.

So, no alternates appear even while you are traveling, and using turn-by-turn directions? That's when most show up for me, on the go.

What happens when you turn off of the listed route? Aren't you re-directed to a different route?
What happens when you turn ON (or off) those route options?

Curious - what kind of driving do you typically do?
    Urban/large city?
    Rural/light traffic?
    Another country (which country?)
Long/vacation trips? or short delivery-type runs?

    How turn off listed route?
Don't understand turn by turn, remember I want to see the routes before I leave house. I can't drive and then start analyzing routes.

I guess desktop is totally different than iphone for google maps?
    US, urban.

Sorry, what I meant by "Turn off route" is that you go a different direction accidentally (or on purpose)/miss your turn, or simply decide to go off the route (Turn off the road or highway) while Google Maps is giving you turn by turn directions to follow your pre-arranged route.
Or, in Google Maps - you can go off your route by pressing the microphone button, and speak your new destination while you are driving.

Turn-by-turn is your phone talking to you "In 200 feet, turn right..."

I use that a lot, and realize the route changes (there's your alternate, right there!) when I get caught up in traffic and miss the suggested turn.
I guess you never miss your turn!

I just do "Hey, Siri! Take me to work!" and follow Siri's instructions.
I don't do "anal-yzing routes" (see what I did there?)
But then, what is the use of studying the map before you go somewhere, when you have turn-by-turn directions.
Don't get me wrong on that, I pay attention to my surroundings, as I once had a turn through GPS that took me down a boat ramp :D

But, then I have to drive for most of an hour before I get into what I would call "urban/heavy" traffic.

If you miss anything Google instantly adjusts automatically, you don't need to do anything.

Exactly... That's what I have been saying...
Not that you NEED to do anything, but that you can, and the route adjusts as you go.
    That's your alternate route!
What more could you possibly need! :)

Because sometimes I want to analyze routes before I leave.
