So google maps updated today to be optimized on iPhone X. I tried testing the google maps and as while the navigation is going, I tried swiping up to get out of google maps to another app but it swiped up the bottom menu on google apps.
Then I was able to swipe out of the app.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyway to work around having to swipe up twice to get out of the app?

I think they updated the app on a simulator only. Elements like the explore box is too close to the bottom (the safe area shouldn't be occupied). But better be imperfect than not supporting the new iPhone at all.

I can swipe up at bar and close app and swipe up and pause to go to app switcher.

Oh yeah, just updated - hahaha, the box is invading my beautiful curves ...

And what is Google doing with the Gmail app? Email app should be the simplest of all and should require no effort to update if it uses standard UI elements and not this 'Material Design' crap.

According to the App Store I am running the latest version of Google Maps on my iPhone X yet I am not seeing the green portion at the top extending all the way through the notch nor am I seeing the bottom of the screen extending all the way to the Home bar.

Anyone else seeing this behavior on their X? It still looks like the condensed version for the iPhone 7 to me.

hmm, I mis-posted earlier. Opened Apple Maps. Google Maps doesn't look updated at all. I see no notch. Just black bars top and bottom. What am I missing.

It's supposed to look like this according to the App Store.

But it doesn't.

Thanks, when I go to App Store it just says OPEN as if I have the latest version. Info with App says it has been updated. Confused--

Same here. It looks like they posted the screenshots and the text for the new version of the app but have not yet released the app for download.

If memory serves correctly I updated Google Maps last Friday and there hasn't been anything pushed out since.

My app is updated

Hmm guessing the screenshot doesn’t show much. But yes my app is updated and the app is full screen with no borders top or bottom.

I had to delete and reinstall.
Ye olde reinstall eh. :D

Google Maps is lookin very nice....will possibly be my most used App, so was hoping they'd get this optimisation done before I get the X. Well played, Google.

Now, Apple, let's talk about scrapping your Maps altogether ok?....
