I always come to think why the built in Maps app doesn't have the ability to save an entire region or country for offline viewing for directions etc. I think that it would be something to get people looking at an iPad or is there a way to do this already?

If you don't know what I mean, it's like loading a book then viewing it offline. For this you could download the entire map, which would be zoomable, and use that for directions. Even if it was just the street view and not the satellite one.

Do you guys know any apps that do this, or how to do it now. Or do you think that it should be included with the app?

PS: I know the 3G version has GPS and what not, but I mean OFFLINE viewing without any connections.

I believe MotionX GPS app has this feature

I totally agree with you..
These apps need to have built in off line viewing.. WITH SCROLLING AND ZOOMING.

This is what I did on my last cross country trip with the iPad..

I TOOK SCREEN SHOTS (HOME + POWER) of google maps..

this provided my offline viewing.. LESS than optimal.. no scrolling, no zooming..

i had tons of screen shots.... 10k foot views, close ups, etc.. a hassle..but better than nothing..

I updated the maps/screen shots using the free wifi at McDonalds..
