Not sure if its been me mentioned on here, but Google have added Street View back on to their web based Maps.

I can confirm that Street View is back with iOS 6. I've just used it on my iPad 3.

Basically you go to maps.google.com and add the page to your Home Screen.

Once you've done that, click on it. Next enter the street name, town/city in the search bar at the top of the Google Maps page.

After you've entered this information, you will see a orange/red balloon on the map with a letter A on it.

Now at the very bottom right side of the screen you will see a road sign symbol and to the right of that, a person symbol. Click on the person symbol and you will be put on Street View on that street.

Google Maps web app added Street View

;) when you tap on a POI (zoom in to the closest level) there is a little man icon on the bottom right. Click on it and rejoice!

Nothing happens on iPhone or iPad when I tap at positions ?

EDIT, ah I see, it only works for building etc that are labelled. So it's still totally useless for me compared to the previous maps app.

It also crashes safari on my ipad3 after moving in a direction 4 times. Every time I try!

Yes that's crap, I confirm that we can only click on buildings and some weird places

Wth! I've played with street a million times but never experienced this.

Hey look a salon.

Lets have a look inside...

Is there any other buildings I can explore the inside of?

For a moment I thought google had already released a full fledged map app for iOS when i read the title.

Anyhow, why did google disable street view on the web app in the first place/

what does that mean? it works wherever street map data is available
No, some building have a name label on them. You can on,y activate street view by tapping on that or on a bus stop etc.

If you want to street view at some random place on a road you can't just tap and go there even though it has street view available.

Where I live only businesses have labels, so it's no use when looking for a friends home address.

I understand if you just browse through apps at a position where there are no POIs (although I learned Google Maps has them at every corner).

But if you know your friends home address (which I assume) why don't you just search it and use the resulting "POI"?

They didn't of course but it was in Flash. They ported it to HTML5.

I also wish you could open Street View anywhere. There are may instances when I want to see fartherup/down the street than the default.

The new street view is working great for me. I did have to delete my previous home screen shortcut and make a new one to get this functionality.

Yes Google is starting to do "views" *inside* the buildings/POIs. From what I hear, you (the owner) have to pay a fee and Google sends in their guys and cameras to do it. I don't know if there is a master list of these places somewhere but I have heard they are starting to expand the program.
